First of all a huge big gratz to all those involved in building the new fighting 2.1 - overall it is great and a huge quantum improvement.

I suffer from low vision. I make adjustments to my laptop to accommodate my needs. In my browser (Firefox) I adjust my zoom levels.
Most of the time I find I can manage Torn pages set at 120% which just means I usually need to scroll up/down left/right much more than other users but I am fine with that.

The new attacking 2.1 display system means even at 100% zoom I cannot see both fighters on the same screen at the same time. Scrolling is not really an option during fighting due to the time penalties. Going down to 90% is not bad but everything is much smaller.

I have similar issues with the upgrade tree and this is the subject of an outstanding bug/issue.(https://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=threads&f=19&t=15996904&b=0&a=0&start=20&to=18159482) Again on the upgrade page I zoom down to 90% to overcome the issue and this workaround works a treat. But in this new attacking display system my ability to play the game is severely hampered.

Is there anything that could be done to make the whole experience for me much better without adversely impacting other players?

What is your screen resolution?

I think I can recommend you a "hack".

If you will zoom in even more, (175% on my 1600px wide screen) attack will switch to tablet layout, which doesn't your model at all, hence no scroll.

Does it work for you?

My laptop is an old ThinkPad T410 running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (all fully updated) with a maximum of 1280 X 800 (16:10). I am running Firefox 56.0 64 bit simply because if I updated I would not be able to use some important addons necessary for my low vision,

Will try your suggestion and come back.

Increasing the zoom level within the browser will let me go to a max of 300% - but no improvement I'm afraid.
However, zooming down to 90% gives me access to seeing both combatants and is sufficient for my needs.

I mentioned in my OP this outstanding bug/issue.(https://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=threads&f=19&t=15996904&b=0&a=0&start=20&to=18159482) so I now have the same workround - zooming down to 90% gets me a workable if not perfect display.

From what I see 1280 pixels wide screen should be enough to fit attack page in up to 125% zoom. Checked firefox and chrome.

If that's not the case could you please post a screenshot of what you see at 100% and say 110%?

Thanks
KnifeGirl [1548391]

Thanks again for your interest. As stated earlier I can only see 2 combatants on the screen when my dispaly is zoomed out at 90%.

Here is a graphic at 125% prior to attacking.

Here is a graphic at 125% after I start the fight.

This one below is at 100% before I attack.

The one below is before I attack at 90%

This one below now is just before I start the fight at 90% (I can see the ghost outlines of 2 combatants that I could not see at the higher zoom)

And finally what follows is the fighting page at 90% where I can see 2 fighters.

Hope this helps!

I do not use torn in mobile mode!

I occasionally use torn on my Android 5.1 system under firefox - but in desktop mode,

All the previously posted screenshots were whilst in desktop mode on a laptop. When I zoom down to 90% Torn automatically switches to mobile mode - I have never noticed that before until now. Forgive my now confused state - do you now want me to switch to mobile mode first and then zoom up to 110-125%? At which point exactly? Before I attack, before I start a fight?
toshykazu [1435333] Admin Staff

This is indeed confusing, because we have to deal with 3 variables to understand what mode we are in, 2 of them are related to browser: zoom, window width and the last one is a torn switcher

which itself can be in 3 states, hidden (desktop mode, mobile not available), desktop and mobile.

Could you please check if toggling this switch and zooming to 125% is ok for you.

Thanks
KnifeGirl [1548391]

Once more thank you for your interest.

This is what I call NO MODE:-

In this mode the only way I can see two combatants is by zooming down to 90%.

_____________________________________________________________________________

I am going to call this MODE ONE:-

In this mode the only way I can see two combatants is by zooming down to 90%.

_____________________________________________________________________________

I am going to call this MODE TWO:-

In this mode the only way I can see two combatants is by zooming down to 90%

_____________________________________________________________________________

So you can see, regardless of what mode I am in I can only see 2 combatants when the browser is zoomed out to 90%. In this case, using Firefox 56.0 in a Linux environment.

Using the Chrome browser in the same Linux environment I have to zoom down to 67% in order to see 2 combatants.

I am still of the view that whatever techniques someone used to draw the tree to fix the bug mentioned earlier is the exact sort of technique that needs to be used to render the combatant screens. I am guessing that differents aspects of torn use differing screen rendering techniques when it may be more efficient to have just one screen rendering module which is called by the other individual components as and when. - just a thought.

I'm having troubles understanding what is going on. For me both firefox and chrome zoomed at 120-125% with window resized to 1280px width show both players. Could be the case that you also updated your browser's preferences to use a bigger font?

One more time, would you please show me just 2 screenshots, with attack in process at zoom 100%, one with "MODE ONE" and another with "MODE TWO", as you call them. Thank you.

And you are right, there are some inconsistencies between techniques used on different pages, there are some historical reasons for that, I hope we'll be able to manage this this year.
KnifeGirl [1548391]

OK This is MODE ONE at 100% zoom. I cannot screen shot all of it but have included the mode icon.

I am investigating your suggestion about a bigger font and will see if that is possible something was installed. Don't want to labour the point - but even if a bigger font was installed/configured/utilised the tree fix now works for me.

.EDIT.may be worthwhile mentioning that if I try to attack on my android tablet I have exactly the same issue. And that was how the tree display was too. Exactly the same. So I don't think it can be a font thing. We are using two different OS environments and having same issue.
KnifeGirl [1548391]

In Firefox in my Linux environment I see 389px top left 768px bottom centre. Like this:-

In Chrome in same linux environment I see 426px centre left 890px bottom centre. Like this:-

On my android tablet using Firefox I see 423px top left and 960px bottom centre. Like this:-

Finally, I dug out an old 32 bit laptop - again runinng firefox but the most up to date version and looks as if the same issue is on here also. Here are the px values:

toshykazu [1435333] Admin Staff

Thank you for your research.

It's strange that chrome and firefox show different values, I can't see why would that happen, unless your browser is not full screen or window is zoomed?

And I also can't tell why the width is different then system resolution width. For me it is the same, system width is equal with any browsers width if it is full screen and zoom = 100%.

You mention earlier that 1280 is maximum screen resolution, is it your actual screen resolution?

Anyway, I think the only option for you is to use attack in "MODE TWO", i.e. mobile mode. From you screen I can see that you have plenty of room at zoom 100%, thus you can zoom it a bit. That would let you see everything you need for attacking but maybe not everything you want. What you have there is *your* weapons and *his* model.

KnifeGirl [1548391]

Thanks for all your efforts.

I will either suffer the reduced display content when I attack or zoom down to 90% in order to see two combatants.

Yes, I using the maximum resolution on my T410 - 1280x800. I use my browser like most people - I very rarely use full-screen where the menus and other tabs disappear unless I am watching a video through the browser.

The fact that this issue manifests itself on 2 different laptops which I have plus my android tablet, does not appear to be explained.

I would like this bug to remain as requiring fixing - if the faction tree display can be fixed then so can this.
toshykazu [1435333] Admin Staff

I'm sorry I meant maximizes not full screen.

You see, if your screen is 1280px wide, so should be your browser (again, maximized and zoom 100%). I have no idea why it is not. Attacking system was designed in 3 layouts (like most of torn pages) and for any display wider than 1000px it should give you desktop layout. Could you please find out why isn't your browser window 1280px wide.

Thanks
KnifeGirl [1548391]

I decided to start Firefox with a brand new bare profile. The display size was huge, I needed to do a lot of scrolling to navigate around.

I started Torn which meant I had to do 2FA which was understandable. It started at 100% with a tooltip saying to view the full website I could always click the icon.

Trying to attack resulted in the usual large display showing only one combatant and I had to reduce the zoom down to 50% in order to see two combatants and the log/transaction pane below that. But it was all very small for low vision.

I now get these px figures at 100%

And even if I zoom down to 50% the px figures stay the same as the above screenshot.

So, to try and unravel where we have got to. :)

By using a bare new profile in Firefox the problem remains, albeit with differing px figures and the need to zoom down more to 50% to see the full attacking screens as intended. So, I conclude it is not a Firefox browser problem and as stated earlier I get exactly the same problem on my Android tablet. And of course there is the matter of my old 32-bit laptop running newest firefox which has the same problem also.

In answer to your question as to why my browser window is not 1280 px wide - I would not really know where to start except perhaps the Firefox processes I have been through.

Happy to do more testing if this would help.

EDIT

PS I am really not that technical. I wonder if this helps in any way:-

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/20652673/how-to-test-what-a-webpage-web-app-will-look-like-with-firefox-on-a-specific-scr

As well as the inbuilt responsive design tool within Firefox this in particular could be quite good http://quirktools.com/screenfly/

I have fiddled with them but not too sure how helpful they really are other than tell us what we already know.

The fact remains, I have low vision. I optimize my browser for my vision needs which includes zooming the screen display at times. (I accept I need to do more scrolling as a result). For fighting, I need to zoom down to 90% to see 2 combatants at the same time, albeit a bit smaller than others will see - but at least I can make out the Armour they have and what weapons they are packing. Its just that I feel a little disadvantaged when compared with the majority of other players.

EDIT 2

I have found this website:-

https://browsersize.com/

At my preferred zoom size - 120% it reports:-
Current:
[image: browsersize.com]Browser window size: 768 x 389
[image: browsersize.com]Screen size: 768 x 480
At 100% zoom size it reports:-
Current:
[image: browsersize.com]Browser window size: 917 x 465
[image: browsersize.com]Screen size: 917 x 573
At 90% zoom size it reports:-
Current:
[image: browsersize.com]Browser window size: 1024 x 519
[image: browsersize.com]Screen size: 1024 x 640
I think this explains why I can see 2 combatants when I zoom to 90% but at other zoom levels I cannot.
