I got the Gold Edition Steelbox edition of Far Cry 5 yesterday from Amazon because they gave me a $25 discount on the pre-order. Has anyone else played this? What are your thoughts on the game?
Personally, as a fan of the franchise it's pretty interesting to have the game set in the US though the terrain still seems awfully exotic at points. The game play is a little different with the aim assist being almost non-existent (unlike 4). As with the other games, the basic idea of the game is the same but different in that your main enemy is a charismatic but psychotic leader. I've enjoyed it thus far, though.
im not reall a gamer and have never player a previous far cry title, but i am extremely interested in far cry 5. my problem is finding time to play, as work and family takes up most of my time. ill probably get it if i ever finish the latest wolfenstein and doom, which ive been working on for about 4 months now lol.
-Gunplay feels very hollow? Theres no real sound of impact. Shoot someone with a gun and it sounds like you hit a pillow.
-Micro-transactions because why not. Can be used on skins but also for stuff that will help in game so its not all cosmetic
-Main villain is decent enough. He's no Vaas but i like him better than Paegan
-Map is huge, you get to explore all of it right off the bat, no here's half and the other half later.
-The main character you play as is just some random federal agent with no backstory other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, you have no name or anything. Kinda kills it for me because I don't really care what happens to me.
-Voice work is done well
-Some annoying bugs. Had an issue with hit detection where i shot someone and they disappeared and reappeared without taking any damage but still shot at me
-Crafting has been dumbed down. So extra holsters and the likes are now perks instead of done by collecting animal skins. Also there is no more healing even though you have no medkits, if you run out you're pretty much screwed until you regen
-AI is all over the place, can't walk more than 50ft without just everyone and their mother attempting to blow your face off because they don't like the way you look.Turns into just using a helicopter to fly everywhere to avoid all of this
-You get guns for higher which offer perks and you can pick these people up in any order you like to enhance your play style, was extremely well done. They know how to aim and take cover with some minor hiccups. Also you can pick up random people with a random set of perks as well so mix-matching is possible with some RNG luck if you're looking for something specific
The list goes on but I'd give it a 5/10. 3 was better but this is on par with 4 for me, that's not to say i didn't like 4 but what they improved on was held back by what they did wrong so 2 steps forward and 2 steps back
