Im new to the racing circuit... I earned a few race points.. Do I use the points on my shitty E class car for tuning or Do I wait to invest in the car when I get a better class?
thanks
Save the points - no point in wasting them in Class E - you'll need them later as you get to higher levels. And you'll progress fairly quickly through Class E anyway so there's no need to spend points. Then read Baldr's guide here:
https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=21&t=15963648&b=0&a=0After that - come back with any questions and people will be happy to help.
The quick version of that guide is that you'll spend as few points as necessary to get through each level in a reasonable amount of time. The key is to have enough points when you jump up to the next level to upgrade your car, as necessary, so that you can be competitive right away at the higher level. And the amount of points you'll want saved up for each level will increase as you get to higher levels. You won't need to spend any to get through E. And even D you could probably get through without any points - I think I spent 9 when I did it. As you get to higher levels though you'll need to spend more to be competitive, until you'll want enough to fully upgrade a car when you get to Class A.

Well it depends on what you plan on doing. Do you plan to only get the merits or do you plan on to continue racing after you got the merits ?
I did
something a while ago, that you might be interested in.

A alternative (save) route to A class.
Don't quote me on this, but it sure felt this way on looking back.
Save all points until Class A for one simple reason. When you enter an official race, you are matched against people of as close to equal Driving Skill as possible. It seems counter intuitive when you consider as your DS goes up you will face tougher opposition. But, consider as well that eventually you will have the highest or close to highest DS in that class. And, since you are in that class, the others you match against must be lower DS.
I put a few points into Class E, the same for D, then started holding in Class C. It took a while, then suddenly I was winning or finishing top 3 in ever race. Same happened in Class B. I had an untouched Mustang and by the end of the class I was beating Cosworths on Mudpit. Not always and not every time, but it happened a time or two. Likely me with a much higher DS going against an unmodded Cosworth, but a win is a win.
You will hear that it is more luck than DS and that might be true, but I feel at the lower classes DS becomes very important.
I would recommend you try to get into a long race once a day, over night, whatever works. Best way to build DS.
Also, I won a lot of races early on when I hit Class A. I had a lot of points still to use and likely had one of the lower DS for the class still. I think I was going against people than had used their points already and didn't have good DS. So I got matched a lot of time because I had that low DS as well. But, I had a well modded car.
Good luck.
Oh, and I didn't bother with getting a Cosworth until I had spare points when in Class A. A little of that had to do with not finding one when doing the crime, but also I didn't see any reason to win a bunch of Class B races when I would be Class A sooner by doing so. Now that I have a tricked out Cosworth, I am top 3 almost always. As you can see, my wins alone have pretty much paid for the upgrades and not that many races.
Races won: 34 Races entered: 94
this one is tough..why would you build a class b car when you are in class a..you build a class b car in class b..unless you have a lot of cars..
yes your wins with the cosworth is impressive..but if you would have built that car instead of the mustang in class b..you would have those points to spend on another class a car..then you would have 2 or 3 cars earning you points right now..
always build your cosworth in class b..if you build it in class a..you are building it for one race..
I didn't build on the Mustang, just raced it without upgrades. Like I said as well, I didn't have a Cosworth until I was well into Class B. And, yes I did build the Cosworth almost specifically for one race only. In fact, most of the non wins come because it has been the best I have for one of the other tracks so far. Getting close now on a replacement for it.
The sole point I was trying to make is I think you are better served to suffer a lot of 5th and 6th place finishes until at least Class B. Build DS instead of using points to build cars you might rarely use. I had a Cosworth and as soon as I went over 263 points, I started building on it. If you don't spend any points prior to Class B, when you get there you would have 375. Meaning you could put 112 into a Cosworth right away. If you have one. I could see going ahead and building it out and saving those 112 for Class A along with the 475 you will need to get there. (Adjusted for upgrades you want to wait until Class A for.) It just worked better for me since I didn't have the Cosworth to run around building DS with a Mustang I did have.
I had a goal at the time to build an Astin Martin so didn't really think things through that well and had wasted some points on the earlier cars. I have looked at what folks post here for getting the 250 win merit. I got mine in the Astin with less than 50 custom races in less than 1300 total races. Bare in mind I was using it on every non dirt track too. Not nearly the best car for a lot of tracks. I do the 77s race now and then and tend to do alright though which was the reason for that strat.
I have 7 cars fully upgraded with one more almost there. I did fully upgrade a Class E car for Night Racing though I don't do that much. Trying to decide once I finish this Audi if I want to do a GT40 or go back and work up the other Classes. I think I still get matched against a lot of folks with maybe better cars but lower DS. Points haven't been that hard to come by. Third in Industrial yesterday in the Astin behind two Nissans. I think i do alright.
