Hello Everyone,

There has been a lot of complaints about the forums, especially the poor quality of threads and an increase in the number of trolls/shitposters. This is certainly a problem and there are a number of ways in which it could be addressed. Here are my suggestions.

Enable Negative Karma

- This could deter popular forum trolls from creating bad quality threads.

- Displaying the OP's karma on the forum bar would warn the community of the OP's fame/infamy before they open the thread.

Create a New Forum for players with Negative Karma

- Threads created by players with negative karma are automatically moved to the new 'Negative' forum.

- Players that visit this 'Negative' forum, will only do so when they choose to view the shitposts in that forum, so no complaints there.

- Once a player with a negative karma raises it back to positive, any new threads they make will no longer be auto-moved to the 'Negative forum'.

- The community finally gets to police the forum to an extent. They get to decide which players are shamed into the 'Negative forum' and which players upgrade out of the 'Negative Forum'.

- This could provide an incentive for famous Shitposters/Trolls to improve the quality of their threads.

But what if noone is interested in the shit posting forum category. It's got negative karma for a reason. This could mean the end of their forum carriers leading to a less social environment. To make it a little less harsh I say we also make the negative karma go down... Slowly... Like 1 bad karma a day so it's not a death sentence but a naughty corner for the kids who were bad. I mean all opinions matter.... To a point. Some people simply should not open their traps but we need those "opinions" heard even if it's just a troll looking to trigger people. People like me even get a guilty giggle out of watching such drama. Guilty as charged.

I actually like both these ideas and would suggest their posts be moved when reaching -100 karma. 100 day sentence is quite awhile but in my opinion, not overly harsh, especially if a person earned such a bad reputation .

Totally agree!

That will hurt them even more than anything - a totally separate forum where only their fellow shitposters can post on! :)

I'd imagine that it would be more effective to not reward people with their own shit posting sub forum as people would more likely race to the bottom.

Preferably, each -karma point would mean 1 day banned from creating new topics on the forum (outside of bug reporting). If you're so dumb/hateful/annoying that you get shot into the negatives regularly or are held there, it means the community would be able to self-rid itself of one's insanity.

Or staff could just enforce the rules they already have. There's already rules against spamming or trolling in the forums, but staff sticks their head up their ass and wonders why the community has gone to shit.

I disagree with the idea of giving karma the power to affect where a player can and can't post beyond the VIP forum for 1000 karma. It would be too easy for a faction or other group of people to mass downvote threads whether they deserve it or not.  People who end up in a negative karma forum are unlikely to get out. Trolls and shitposters won't be incentive to improve the quality of their threads, because they do it with the intent of gathering that negative attention.

Even so, I don't think the threads are the biggest problem. Threads can be ignored. It's the way they reply to otherwise good threads, derailing the conversation entirely and turning a good thread into a shitpost dude hate circlejerk. The community has only themselves to blame for that part. So maybe negative karma hiding comments would be a more effective solution?

If karma were to affect anything, I think it would be better if it worked like reddit comment karma. Posts with a certain amount of negative karma aren't moved, but are hidden, they can be shown anyway if someone clicks the post hidden due to low score button. I imagine it would look like the forum blocker script makes it look.

But I still in part disagree with karma doing much due to the possibility of downvote brigades and people buying votes. Simply updating the forum rules and guidelines, and then letting staff delete shitposts instead of the current 'anything goes' policy would be easier yet still effective.

Either way, you'll still never be rid of dude. With his tornography and his mention in the April fools event, he clearly has the support of Sugarvalves and Ched's silent endorsement by extension. Dude serves a purpose in the community as an antagonist, someone for everyone to hate. If anything, he brings people together just by the fact that no one likes him. It's the other shitposters that concern me.
