Is it against the terms of use to create a bot that logs in and go to a users profile and scrape information like name, age, all the things in "Basic Information"

Thanks :D

Where can i find information on the api key and is it possible to get informaiton about at user with only their id?

You can make a bot that scrapes the current page but the bot itself is not allowed to navigate to another page or login automatically.

All the other replies fail to point out that you cannot extract "Basic information" with your API key?

EDIT: I actually meant to say "Personal Information" but then again, I must have been sleeping when I read this thread :D

https://api.torn.com/user/?selections=basic&key=key

returns the key owner's

{ "level": 75, "gender": "Male", "player_id": 1826888, "name": "saeed", "status": [ "Okay", "" ] }

https://api.torn.com/user/1?selections=basic&key=key

returns basic info for user id 1

"level": 16, "gender": "Male", "player_id": 1, "name": "Chedburn", "status": [ "Okay", "" ] }

I think it's worth mentioning that the call is literally called basic.. :p

it's not against the rule if the user navigates to the profile page himself. You are not allowed to press or navigate anywhere from a script, but scraping current page is allowed :)

Ctrl + F never gets old. It's my cheap way of processing data without having to write a custom bot.

To answer the chicken /egg question. Ctrl + F comes first for us normal users.

Before someone gets mad: i view all JS scripts as bots (follow lines of code and automatically execute a task:  mostly calculation/data management. No automation allowed ect). As long as the script (called bots) follow the Torn Rules, no need to get your panties in a twist)
