How do unlock the other travel options, is it expensive, how do I get a private airfield?

 

The various travel options are unlocked by having certain properties, stocks, or items.

For example, to obtain an Airstrip you need to have an upgraded Private Island as the property you are currently living in (or a unique property, but those are extremely difficult to get access to) and have hired a Pilot. Note that you don't have to own the property, it is possible to get access to it through renting as long as you confirm that the Airstrip is available. This will remove the cost of flights, decrease flight time by 30%, and allow you to carry 10 extra items.

The other methods of improved flight are the WLT stock Benefit Block, which also removes cost and adds 10 items, as well as decreasing flight time by 50%, and the Business Class Ticket which is a one-time use item that covers the cost, adds 10 items, and decreases flight time by 70%. Note that none of these stack, you will simply gain the benefit of the best one in use.

Rent a Private Island.  Make sure it has an airstrip, and hire a pilot as part of your staff.

The 3700 happy PI's are usually the best deals.  You don't have to have the high end PI's with a yacht, and those will be about twice as expensive.

Some of the PI's with happy lower than 3700 will have an airstrip, but not all, so if it has lower happy, be sure to check first.

The other, faster, flying options are much more expensive "rich people" things, which you can ignore for now.
