In patch# 54, Ched has decided to make the newspaper button green when there is a new article.
Now don't get me wrong, this is a great change for the 4 people who actually read the newspaper, but for normally functioning people this is actually the worst thing to happen since making scamming legal (xanax / vicodin swappers).
Now when you train your e, do your crimes, and check events there is still a green button notifying you of what? another interview with a shitposter? A boring article written like a rebellious teen editing a wikipedia article to litter it with fart jokes and memes? Newspaper is basically just boring forum posts propped up by ched and put through a spellchecker (some times)

I'm really amazed people are so upset about this. If you click it is no longer green - easy one button push.
Plus the newspaper is announcing all the new single day events so it is now also relevant (sometimes)
That said the link above you may want to R+ so you dont have to click another button I see no reason it cant be turned off to prevent the pain of clicking a button.
Autoban a thread creater (such as Dude, Sharpmid, Wollo, Marlon et al) when his threads hit a set collective amount of downvotes would be a nice addition. But for now, green newspaper icons it is. :)
Edit: Added more names to broaden the suggestion. We dont want individuals feeling "harassed" now do we?
I personally like this being fixed/added back but I can see why people who don't read the Newspaper may not want it to turn green - now while I don't agree with being able to turn it off, I think a good feature would be a way to mark all sidebar buttons as 'Viewed', without having to navigate to those pages (like the 'Mark all as read' feature with Forums friends feed)
A curious colour to select given there are those with colour deficiencies. In my days patched referred to a home made repair to corduroy school trousers.
To be honest i have never been that avid about looking at the newspaper. That probably stems from when i started playing. Back then the newspaper was dead as a dodo and was 'never' updated ie new articles etc where very rare.
The newspaper is actually worth looking at now and has been for a few years. True sometimes you get the impression some of the articles where written just so the writer could get the merit for having a article in the paper.
But a lot of the time the articles are actually worth reading ie they are at least interesting.
Years ago the newspaper literally served very little purpose at all.
It is now a link which is worth clicking on once in a while.
