As it is now the war/territories system is pointless. It's all about who can hire the biggest guns. Not a war between factions. So my suggestion. If you leave a faction you wont be able to join a new one in say..90 days? or maybe an escalation of time not being able to join a new faction every time you change? That way the mercs would face "some" difficulties and maybe think twice before leaving their motherfaction in case there would be a war.

Let the bashing begin.... ;)

This idea is plain shit for one pretty good reason.

You can make hits from the outside and still impact territory wars and general chains. No need to join the faction, as I've guested from the outside plenty of times.

How would that work? Would people that are hit from the outside still be on the wall and in hosp at the same time, that doesn't seem like the greatest idea. Are you suggesting that people can't get attacked at all if they're on a wall? That doesn't seem to work well either because two family factions could declare on each other and essentially make their members invulnerable to all attacks including mugs.
AbleKain [696201]

Well if two familiy faction would like to declare on each other standing on the wall for three days doing nothing, wouldnt disturb me very much if they did that but I guess as everythin else it could be exploited in some way...

pls bring back actual warring ched

we been in training move for years

plz

but ya it is kinda lame that u can jus buy a territory win that prob wont change unless its made impossible to attack a faction that you're not at war with

that would be dumb. tho limiting the joining of factions wont rly stop anyone from "Guesting" as rum says.

usually tho a dedicated faction can outlast a faction full of guesters. Theyll go home eventually and wont be as down to protect their shit

The two family factions thing was just an example, people shouldn't be invulnerable from everything except the faction they're warring with even it was an actual war.

Well then I'm out of Ideas, the whole game has gone into a static mode, no point for no one to do warring exept respect farming. Most of the people are learning this so we'll be stuck in training/farming mode for a loooong time..about as interesting as a game of tic tac toe...

Well it's less of a factor of this being a problem and more a factor that it's literally the only big thing to do in Torn but lacks the ranking system that would need to be added to make it active again. It is in the works but is taking too long.

However, I must disagree with this post. Mercenary work is part of criminal life. It's just part of what would happen if criminals went to war, hired guns would get used.

I believe there was an idea for several new warring modes that I read somewhere. I'm looking forward to that.
MightyGoober [812478]

Yeah I think the competitive war mode was said to have locked rosters.

I also seem to remember Ched saying you could set up a type of "trade" window. Where leaders could put in the terms of the war, locked membership being one of them.

why remove the ability to join a new faction? If you really wanted to prevent mercs, without ruining the faction system, just setup territory wars the same way chaining is... if you join the faction after the war has started, your not able to join it.

But even then, you could simply hire someone from another faction to attack everyone from the opposing faction that's on the wall... They don't need to join a faction to hosp someone theyre paid to hosp
Blunt [2076337]

how is that a response?

It might not bother you, but if 2 factions war against each other for invulnerability, they could hold an actual war with another faction while remaining invulvnerable… Which then would lead to factions hiring other factions, simply to give them the invulnerability of a territory war.

Basically, theres no way of preventing mercs… just gotta use bounties or hire stronger mercs
Satan [612696]

it depends on how much stronger your faction is then them. my faction recently beat one that hired over 15 guests.
Django_Freeman [1881627]

Not true. It would disallow folks to come just to sit a wall. If a faction's own members can't be bothered to sit their own wall then maybe they just shouldn't have the territory.
Rum4nyby [1567187]

True, but if you can't sit on the wall to take it over due to being hosped constantly by outside members, do they even need to bother?
