A possible budget increase from $60 million to $150 million to help get ready for anything that might collide with the Earth from space. After things like the Chelyabinsk meteor a few years ago, I'd say prep for things like that is long overdue. That's just my view, of course.

But honestly, I'd also say it's more a global concern and not just a national one. Thoughts?

The size of a lot of the meteor craters on earth are pretty nuts. We been lucky a huge one hasn't hit us in recent years. What are the chances though? When was the last time a big one hit us?

You can't really prepare for these things. We cannot see these objects and as what with the Chelyabinsk meteor we often cannot even detect them. The money will be squandered and given to local governments to prepare for generic emergencies. Likely used during tornado's, floods, or wildfires instead of on research and technology needed to detect and deflect a meteorite.

I think there are things that exist on this planet which are far more terrifying and destructive to earth or humanity than anything we have seen from space.

Problem is, Global cooling would be immensely more deadly than warming. An actual ice age would rek humanity far worse than turning the heat up. Also, impact event isn't the only means for this to happen. Supervolcano + plate tectonics is another. Like, when Old Faithful stops being faithful, you get rekt.

We will worry about the existence of our species once we've settled gender and racial equality. I mean what good are we to the universe if we can't tell the difference between 584773584 different genders??

Then what killed the dinosaurs? Since you clearly have no idea, it was an impact event, like the ones they're trying to prevent. A crash like that has consequences to the environment. In short, its gets very cold for a time afterward.

But... I...Wait...... How does that have to do with climate change?

I'm more concerned with sea level rise. Lot of major city's by the water.

An impact causing an Ice Age is a big climate change. Since extreme cold is even more dangerous to humanity than a gradual increase in the heat index, that is presumably what the topic is trying tio prevent.
