Is it intentional that the drugs in this game don't seem to have anything to do with their real life counterparts? Xanax for energy? Really? Have you ever met anyone who takes xanax? Does the word 'energetic' spring to mind? Cannabis for nerve and crimes? Shoplifting on weed? You really think your dead red eyed freaked-out look as you pick up that packet of pringles is helping?
Speed should do what xanax does.
PCP should do what vicodin does.
Ketamine should just lock you out of the game for a few hours.
LSD should allow you to go racing, think you had come first in your last five races, then realise you never actually entered a race.
If you would like to talk about realism, id think it would be best to talk about how that people can be put in the hospital thousands of times, and not be dead.
Awareness increase from Ecstasy & LSD was removed on Feb 21, 2017, since the changes to city finds where your finds are only generated once a day at midnight TCT. It would have given an advantage to players in certain timezones. Now it just gives you:
So sad. I don't see how this would have given an advantage to people in certain time zones. We can still put merits into awareness, so just check how many lsd the player took that day and add the awareness boost from them to the same variable before generating the items?
Or how I can get shot in the head and walk away. Or the nonsense overdose mechanic. Or how an energy drink costs millions of dollars. Or how bullets do more damage if you have s higher strength.
Torn is fantasy and never pretended to be anything else.
Sure. I suppose I could have said that it's utterly ridiculous that I can sell ten soft toys to a museum for half a million dollars. Just having a conversation about realism. There is SOME realism in torn: it's much harder to kill someone with a pillow than it is with a gun or a knife. It's a lovely game. I was just spitballing about how the drugs could be. Notably, heroin and coke are missing. It might be quite interesring to have a drug which makes you insanely happy but has an incredibly high addiction rate etc.
I'm not complaining at all. Just interested in the dynamics of the game. This post wasn't meant to be a "Why can't Torn be more realistic?" thing at all. I;'m just interested in the divergence, and how an artificial economy deals with these things. i was kind of wondering if Torn drug use had anything in common with IRL drug use. I'm an academic interested in agent modelling.
Komrade Chedburnpenguin<3 was under the influence of drugs when he made this game. To deny habitual drug use to his parents, he figured he could make drugs have different effects on Torn and that way no one would ever question his drug use. So why isn't there cocaine, bath salts, heroin, crack, spice, or methamphetamines in this game? It's because Komrade Chedburnpenguin<3 has done them all! Thanks Obama! ^o^
