Whats gone on with the interest? Has this been nurfed to aid the small few in a certain faction remain super wealthy while the rest of the players in torn are valued even less?? Last months interest £253mil, next months interest will be £118mil. Whats thats all about??

I didn't even notice until it was time to bank. I hope this is not on purpose, it is a terrible way to try and "fix" the economy. It is going to screw up prices all over torn if peoples interest drops by over 50%. that's cutting the monthly income of the entire banking population by half, so less money to go around.

In theory that could drop prices... if the economy of Torn was regulated by a government with laws preventing monopolies and price gouging. If anything it will have the opposite effect. The players who are already set with cash can buy out stock, raise prices to drive out players with low income/less cash, and dictate the prices.

the drop from 253m to 118m seems a bit too big. is this for the same time period, with the same merits used and with the stock (if you have those)?

Bank investment is based on the amount of people banking at any time. If more people bank, then the return will be lower.

What exactly is the problem?

From today, I just checked, 2 bill investment with 10/10 merits + stock bb
  • $2,415,400,000  3 months
  • $2,285,600,000  2 months
  • $2,129,800,000 1 month
  • $2,059,800,000 2 weeks
  • $2,026,000,000 1 week

i am pretty sure i never got 400mil interest o.O and i have (had) all merits and stock.

reset my merits last week cause i thought its enough, and then i had 100mil less uffff
Gone-paddling [1013031]

Nothings changed. Same merits (no reset in years) same period, I almost always do a month at a time. Used some job points today to reduce a few days,

You currently have an active investment account.
When the time is up, you may withdraw the $2,118,000,000 and start a new account if you wish.

You definitely did 2 months for the 253

Interest is always between 115-130m for 1 month more or less

And I have 10/10 and stock
Grif [882958]

As I stated above you got 123m for 1 month then did a 2 month

Time of investment aside, income from banking has been steadily going down and it's less to do, as I understand it, with the number of people banking, than it is to do with the overall Torn economy and Ched's fiscal ceiling he imposes.  Seems like this should be re-evaluated and take into account there are more companies providing services than ever before, and the value of Torn items has gone up.  The current situation is not promoting longevity of play especially amongst older players and I think time to re-evaluate.

Penicillin has spoken of the economy before with greater insight into it than I have, and I hope he and others will have some influence upon Ched to re--evaluate the situation as a whole.

I'm not sure I am going to be helpful to the argument being made, which is that bank interest is too low.

Bank interest is a "risk-free" investment. You don't have to do anything to earn the interest and your principal is not subject to fluctuation. You just sit back and earn the money. This is also the case for Cayman banking, but in the case of Cayman banking, you have ready access to your funds, so the interest earned should be lower than regular banking. Given that regular banking is a risk-free proposition, it shouldn't pay a fabulous rate.

Banking should pay just enough interest that you feel it is still worth tying up your money for the relevant time period. It is really important to the economy that players tie up their money in investments/banking. There is an enormous amount of money in the economy and not enough cash sinks to swallow that cash. If a lot of un-invested free cash is sloshing around the economy, it creates inflation.

Unfortunately, we have seen this inflationary problem over the last six months. It seems clear that inflation has crept back into the game after being vanquished several years ago. When players have a bunch of free cash and are not enticed to tie it up, players buy items, thus driving prices up.

At this time, players are not being enticed to tie their money. Bank interest is low and the stock market is not providing much in the way of profit making opportunities. I believe there is a short term problem at the heart of this (what follows is my educated hypothesis, but I'm not ched, so it is just my hypothesis): Over the last year, a small group of players was able to absolutely rape the casino by using perfectly legal game mechanics and an enormous amount of money was injected into the game in the form of bookie payouts and blackjack winnings. We all know that the amount of money created in the economy is controlled at a rate of around +15% per year. So, in order to offset that huge injection of cash into the game, all other money making sources had to be dialed back. So, less stock market gains, less city finds, less bank interest, less company profits, etc. Eventually, the normal cash growth rate will catch up to where it should be, and the economy will hopefully normalize. So, yeah, a small group of people essentially broke the game, and the rest of the player base is paying the price. I suppose you could look at it another way and say they indirectly took that money from you. That said, I place no blame on them. Ched should have recognized the problem and fixed it sooner.

TL;DR: Bank interest should not be highly lucrative because it is a risk free return. It should pay just enough to get you to tie up your money. I think we are at that level now and it shouldn't go any lower.
