Why does it say that "You have already sent an application to another faction." But I want to join a different faction and I don't know what to do

To cancel an application go to your Preferences (top right of screen, gear icon) > management > faction/company application and you can cancel it from there.

This is a common problem. I made a suggestion for a fix that would be very, very easy (some text and a link) but Ched shot it down.
