Just curious if I go in active for awhile but remain in a pi, will the upkeep be taken from the vault? Again just curious.

it will be passed to duke. if you're going inactive ensure you move to a shack to prevent getting bill shock when you're back.
i rarely pay my upkeep, never seen it reduce my happiness and i have a palace. my upkeep total is at 147000 right now and its still a 0% reduction to happiness.
The debt will keep increasing, since you own the PI duke will not interfere.
You happy will start to decline making your PI worthless unless you pay the upkeep.
