The Bubble would be an item of clothing.

When wearing The Bubble no one can attack you. No one can scam you. No one can bounty you while you are in your bubble. When wearing this item the game will hold your hand and guide you through every little aspect of Torn. It will alert you beforehand as to when you are about to do a crime which will result in jail time or hospitalization. It will also let you know beforehand as to when you are about to engage in an attack you will not win.

There are many other things The Bubble could be useful for. If you have any ideas of your own feel free to add them within the thread.

How much would a valued item like this cost to obtain? Nothing. It’s free. All you have to do is ask a staff member for The Bubble and it shall be given to you.

Topic for Discussion: Would you like to have The Bubble introduces to the game? Should it moved along to the suggestions forum or implemented without going up for any kind of feedback from the community? What else would you like The Bubble to be capable of?

I kind of see this as a item for a special event for a couple weeks, just being in the time frame of a special event. Doubt it'd be for someone to keep (or if keeping, then to maintain that ability don't see it).

As a new player, Being beaten up and mugged is bad but being told I’m going to be beaten up wiould make it very boring.
good update would be to have the display cabinet alphabetical ha

Well, thing is, the warning already is on my pepper spray. It’s on anything anyone now chooses to price above a certain percentage amount of an item’s market value.

I’ve stated in other threads that I’m not a scammer and this change doesn’t effect my style of play at all. What bothers me about it is that, in my opinion, it sets a bad precedent.

Within a few weeks, if not a few days, most will forget about the whole thing. As for this thread I was simply having some fun. But I went and created it because of other things I’ve seen suggesting that Torn should continue catering to players that want things made simpler for them. It’s as if they want some general concepts of the game — ones which at the time I started I was given the impression Ched actually endorsed — to be altered just for them.. That is why handling this particular issue in the way they chose to sets a bad precedent.

New Item Suggestion: Balloon Popper. As soon as someone is doing better than you in the game, you can pop their little happy balloon and get half their stuff.

When Torn first started, it was a very simple game, as far as I can tell (I started playing four years ago). There was one job (Army), no companies, very few items, no race track, and not much else. Over the last 5000+ days, the game has grown, expanded, improved and become increasingly complex. Those who have played through the years have just rolled with the incremental changes.

Someone walking in as a new player now is entering a very different space than older players entered years ago. On top of learning a complex game, they are getting hit on all sides by experienced players who are just playing the game, but playing a game they already know quite well.

In 1986 (before half of you were born), I got to sit down to some table-top gaming with the developers of Paladium Books and Games. First off, never play a game with the people who developed it. You will never close the knowledge gap. It WAS a blast, but I was in way over my head. Of course, they realized this and were nice about it, but they blew through the scenarios so quickly and proficiently, I felt like I was being swept along by a tsunami. Fortunately, I was playing a naive noob adventurer, and my screams for help were not role-playing.

I think about that experience when I see new players cannon-balling into the deep end of the pool here in Torn.

What actually happens:

My complaint is not that small changes are being made to help new players. They actually do need some help. And honestly, if those little tweaks have any impact on your game, then you're playing it wrong.

My complaint is that the time spent on little enhancements takes away from developer time for more important game features. And if an entire major module is built on a framework that only allows for one developer to work on it at a time, it's the wrong framework. Yes, adding an additional resource this late in the process won't help. But three years ago, adding one (or two) resources AND redesigning the solution -- even if thus more complex -- to allow for additional resources to work in tangent would not only ultimately move the project along faster, if would prevent over-reliance on one resource, no matter how proficient he may be.

Water under the bridge now, it's in final test I'm sure, but it doesn't need to be this way next time. You can't mix skill sets, true. But you can plan for resources with the right skills and make sure the platform and design supports that without them tripping over each other.

I've been "the only programmer working on X" and I've managed "the only programmer working on X". It's like solitary confinement. It might be ok for a while, but eventually you want to work collaboratively. Too much alone time is not good.
