casual gamer: PS4
Hardcore Gamer/Competitive: PC

tbh i play casually on my ps4 and use it more for netflix and hulu at this point than anything else. depends ur set up and where u want to do ur gaming. if ur planning to play at a desk get a pc. if ur playing on ur couch like i am, just laying back and relaxing i would say the ps4.

`also just saw u say u have a comfy couch ur dad just bought...if using ps4 means sharing tv....i would go pc. when i used to be a gamer i would have been upset needing to share my gaming time with filthy casuals looking to watch tv lol

Its not hard to build your own really, its easier than IKEA furniture and you can find all you need to do it online. But still if you don't want to build it and don't know anyone that would do it for you cheap, my advice for laptops can also be applied to desktops, try to look for a previous gen desktop with a good deal on a sale and you should be fine with a 1550$ budget.

My laptop, that is what i currently use for gaming and to work costed close to that (1400€) almost 2 years ago and has a 1070 gtx, i7 processor, 32GB ram and a 512GB SSD.
Thing is it had a 6th gen i7 after the 7th gen had came out, but if i wanted the same specs with a 7th gen pc i would have payed about 2000€ - 2200 usd at the time. Performance wise it was not really worth the increased price tag.

Since then we've got another laptop (a mobility one that actually was more expensive than mine) for my wife that she barely uses, so when i decide to change i can actually get a desktop and take that one to the work meetings.

well i could buy one new alredy built for 1400usd that has
  • Intel® Core™ i5-8400 processor
  • 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD & 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 - 8 GB

That should do to play anything you want that is out atm. Not on max settings ofc, but should be quite decent and way better than any of the current consoles. And its fairly decently priced i would say.

Around here (Portugal) the best deals tend to be up in October, before the black Friday, they kind of make a full month of promotions around it so i usually do my shopping then (It does help that its my birthday in October also, so my wife is more susceptible into spending 1 or 2k on things we don't really need).
Dunno how it is there, but again, that doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.

while its not hard, some fundamentals re ESD, chassis grounding, etc., need to be completely understood.

even if you don't experience a shock from static electricity, doesn't mean you didn't just overly excite some circuitry in more sensitive components on boards. May not be 100% non functional, but you may experience many sporadic soft memory errors. Other system performance metrics will be impacted. Oft folks think it malicious code, or other software issues.

well i think they do it also here around black firday for that weekend so i could wait to that time to as my birthday is also in october

i could also buy this pc for 1650 usd and it has
  • Intel® Core™ i7-8700 processor
  • 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD & 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 - 8 GB
bacsily just the processor is upgraded i think but i dont know if the price diffrence is worth it
A_Mean_Person [1631303]
Price wise if its only the processor its not really worth the difference, the I5-5000 goes for 230-240$ while the I7-8700 goes for 320$, so not really worth a 250$ difference.

Performance wise the i7 is obviously better but its not that great of a difference, i would still go with the i5 and save the 250$ for something else.
masterofshadows [2033123]
yeah and building one is much chepper i see but i dont really know what goes in to what and what doesnt go where othere wise i think i could save about 500 $ on it for about the same stuff
