Having just received a warning for losing my temper after a player was sexually harassing me in forums, I think that it would be beneficial to many players in torn to have a feature that lets you block a player from commenting in your threads, similar to ignore.
I feel like this might help reduce the amount of harassment in forums, because that is the only area where players cant block harassment, besides reporting, which can take a long time for staff to get to. It can also help stop trolls from messing up threads.
Id love to get players opinions on this, i hope to get 100 upvotes, so this can be passed. \
EDIT: since many players might just block everyone they dont like, or scammers might use it to block those they scam from their "trading threads", perhaps also have a limited number, like 10, which can be increased with points, like with blacklist and friend list spots.

This may make following some conversations awkward but that's the way it goes.
In the meantime, if DocTorn is an option for you, it has a feature for hiding threads and posts. It has made the forums a much better experience for me.
Harassment, and particularly sexual harassment should be be stomped on by those running the game and I am confident the Torn community expects nothing less. Women dont have to put up with this crap anymore, enough is enough.

It is a great idea however, I believe that the block limit won't be much of a deterrent on its own, I was thinking something along the lines of having like a block vote... For example if some one is harassing me on my thread, I can initiate a block and it needs like 5 or 10 votes and they no longer have the ability to post on this thread
there are its problems like you said scammers blocking the scammed victims as long as they have 10 or so friends but I think in combination with you idea, (the limit) this could work very well

Think about this, if your idea was put into place, then the player you are referencing could post that thread and you would have no way to defend yourself given he had blocked you. Works both ways.
Sure, because that mechanic can't be immediately abused by blocking someone and having a discussion thread about them, without them being able to say anything.
You're in Torn, first thing people do with any idea is try to find a way to exploit it with malicious intent to gain advantage. The forum mechanics are fine the way they are.
I think this goes against the spirit of what a forum is supposed to be.
If you can unilaterally decide to cut someone out of a discussion which is directive of the entire community then you're making the decision to exclude them extrajudicially.
Personally, I think the best route is just for staff to continue enforcing their anti-harassment and disparagement rules.
It's still a rather clear No, considering the effort of implementation is not worth the questionable overall effect of the mechanic, which could be prevented by simply having thicker skin and not being too easily offended by everything. You can already block the person from directly contacting you and you can easily ignore them in shared space such as global chat and forums. This isn't facebook, where only "sunshine comments and positive feedback" is allowed.
If people can put up with Dude, Pig and Batman, you can put up with a few mean words from anyone else.
Totally too easy to exploit that. Make a post that you know someone would be against and block them, even when it is something harmless and not harassing.
I think at most make it so you can't see their comments but to completely block someone from a thread is just silly.
If you two do not stay on topic - action will be taken.
I would note that a wish for something to occur is NOT the same as making an active statement that one is going to make it so.
I would also note that a mention of a feline is, at best, low level trolling - It is difficult to view it as a substantive statement intending to sexually harass.
Back on topic - I can see the opportunity for significant abuse of such a proposal for the forums.
Mary - there should never be a mechanic that could be used by players to block other players from posting in the public forums. Even though it might seem wonderful at first, especially to block retards like maxx and piglet and doo-doo, it would eventually be used for the wrong reasons and the forums would no longer be public. To have rights, we have to suffer the rights of others. Also, there is always danger when appealing to the community for help or sympathy. Best to let the trolls and assholes have their say. Eventually they will bring themselves into disrepute on the basis of their own stupidity, without any help from you.
