Should be in questions and answers, but IMO you should just get all of the starter jobs out of the way when you start playing. Once you get big work stats you're not gonna wanna go back and have to grind them out.

Personally, I would start with the Grocer so that you can earn cans which you can sell for money. Once you're able to get into Education, switch, and use your job points to increase your working stats so that you can finish the Law and Medical jobs without having to wait an age.

I don't see much point in the Army unless you intend to go inactive for a long while. Casino is overall worthless, imho.

if you want fast progress...go to education and get them workstats first. After that you'll have more options...but I'll also suggest doing Law and Hospital early because later it will be a pain.

TL;DR. No. Don't get General in the Army first.

OP Eddehs way is an option ...i prefer working up cash in Sweet Shops paying for trains to boost intel to 10k then fast tracking each job in a month rather then sitting in the job waiting for your ranks to unlock (which will take months/years).
Then move on to City Education Job to unlock 10% reduction by hitting principle.
Then Either unlocking Federal Judge for the 10% CE boost or Medical Job to unlock Brain Surgeon for Revive.

100 days in the army works out at around 3m defence if I recall correctly. Which while you're training your other stats is a nice passive boost.

Though, admittedly, it's been some time. Perhaps someone else can advise on more up to date figures.

Yes its worth it so you can get the spying merit, you can sit in there for a couple years, few years, too saving all your job points and then cash em in for Defense. I had around 4000 points saved up and jumped from 27k def to 40 some million. My other stats were right at cap as well. Worked out nice for me.

If you dont wanna go that far with it then get the Merit for spying then go jump into Medical, acquire Surgeon Rank so you can do Revives. Couple or few merits with that you can get also you can make some money reviving.

Hope this helps. Good Luck

Maxing Army is worth for the 100 spies merit, but I don't think it's worth maxing first. If you can find a director who actually trains daily for free then I would hang out in a player company till you can do Education at least and gather up all the city job merits/passives. Personally I think it's best to do the city jobs as early as you can manage before you've settled into your playstyle.
