Newcomers often wonder: what is karma, how do I get it, and why is it important. Usually, they've been visiting the forums, and noticed that some people are extremely active. Some have huge scores, others do not. And then there are those who call others "karma whores".

Good questions, in this (short and summarized) I will tell you everything you need to know about Karma in Torn.

WHAT IS KARMA
Karma, like age, is nothing but a number. If someone gave your post a thumbs-up, it goes up by one. If someone gives you a thumbs down, your score drops by one. That's pretty much it.

HOW DO I GET KARMA
Theoretically: by posting quality content.
In reality, karma is gained by posting quality content, but more often by having friends upvote everything you post. There are groups of people who just upvote stuff from friends, no matter the content (and downvote the content of their enemies).

There are even "rumors" that "some people" PAY Torn Players to upvote their posts. I'm not sure how much truth is in those rumors, or if it's even legal. But really, I think you shouldn't even want to think about this possibility. Because let's face it, it's kinda sad...

WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT KARMA?
You shouldn't.

Really. It's pointless. Karma (in Torn) is polluted by the many ways people try to inflate their score, making karma as meaningless as (insert the most meaningless thing you can think of here).

BUT, BUT, BUT...
Yeah, I know. There's a VIP forum. But nothing happens there anyway.

Karma? You should focus your attention on something which actually has meaning. Maybe Karma in Real Life.

lol it's more like "in reality, just post about relevant stuff and you get more karma"

because srsly the thread I'm most proud of, which is also niche has 9 R+ and my most liked thread, which happened to be mainstream news when I posted it, has 11 R+, even though I spent like 20x more time on the one in my forum sig (and has much less errors, even in the 1st try of it) than my most liked thread which has errors EVERYWHERE.

And then memes exist, which get even more karma than those, and require similar efforts to my most liked thread

The one place where everyone wants karma, but again it is pointless. Just like the awards. I mean, who spends tens, hundreds or thousands of dollars to give out a fake award on reddit.

There is even a subreddit for gaining karma, a place for everyone to just upvote everything that is posted there... sad.
