what is the fastest way to make my nnb go higher? how do I know if I am making progress to it or not? thank you.

Just keep doing crimes and it will eventually go up.
Of course it will only go up for successful crimes (greens result). Avoid crimes that give jail time as this will vastly subtract from you crime xp. Other red results such as hospitalised, or blue results don't affect your nerve bar.
There are safe crimes which only result in green, blue or hospital, so these will always boost your nnb and never loose you xp.
