For whatever reason the search function for factions is bugged/disabled. Is this a known issue?

It is because you are flying. You can only search for certain things when flying :)
The above post is correct.
Fair enough...I think it should give the message instead of hiding the option completely, but that's another thing. Thanks for clearing this up.
