In this scenario if you want to put a picture in your profile that links to someones profile do this:

go to settings (the cog in the top right)
Go to Profile Signature
Highlight the photo like you would highlight text (so the picture is blue), then
Press the A letter which will open a drop down menu
go to insert/edit text,
paste in the person's profile link (or a link you want the image to redirect into the box that says "URL"
press ok
click save changes

that should work for you
