Those tests only work if they are showing signs of the illness like fever they can be infected and it won't show for days.

This virus seems to be a lot like SARS according to early indications. It needs to be monitored, and we need to be vigilant about washing our hands and such.

I have only heard that one person so far has been diagnosed with it in the USA. That person had recently traveled to Wuhan China.

The local news was showing that the U.S. government was saying we don't have to worry they are created a vaccine and treatment for this....yet they have only known about this virus for less than a week according to what the information they are releasing to the general public. So i would like someone to answer this...How would they create a vaccine for a virus which they don't understand what it is. Seccondly if they have been able to create a vaccine so quickly why was it not shared with other countries dealing with this virus?

BBC reporting a possible 5 cases in the UK (4 in Scotland and 1 in N. Ireland). From what I can gather they're all Chinese nationals that have traveled from Wuhan.

The virus came from China. Just give it a little bit of time. It'll eventually just break like most things from China.

Yeah, why dont drug manufacturers pull 11million doses of new vaccines out their ass and send it to China? The WHO is working with China and global manufacturing to create a safe and working vaccine.

Ebola is not even over. It's just not widely reported. At this moment there is the second largest outbreak ever recorded in the Congo.

Guess the news stations got bored of Ebola and had to move somewhere else to please their viewers.

Because its a created virus ....they ofcourse made the vacine also...n then spread the illness ...to make a dollar out of you why else ask for a PATENT on a virus!! Patents are only there so you can earn cash ....and if lots of people die they dont care ...as we are so called overpopulated anyway

New is scary.

The virus is not a "new" virus, it's a well known virus that usually only affects animals but it has been known to mutate into new strains that can infect humans as well. The most well known case of this mutation was the SARS mutation(2003), however the most recent mutation, outside of the mutation that we are currently talking about, that was able to infect humans is the MERS mutation (2012-current).

The scientific community knows what this virus is, they were already studying the virus (MERS) when this new mutation showed up. The MERS mutation wasn't very well publicized because of how few people it actually infected, ~2500 over a 10 year period, so there wasn't much of an incentive to study and create a vaccine. *Side note, this is really sad because the MERS mutation has a mortality rate of ~35% because of the lack of investment into studying this mutation.

I'm not sure how accurate the time-line that is currently given for developing a vaccine but we aren't starting from scratch thanks to the ground work that was made during the SARS and MERS outbreaks. I also remember there was a big deal a few years ago with scientists mutating the SARS virus in a controlled environment so they could study and develop a vaccine for SARS if it every reappeared. Depending on the similarities between the current mutation and the SARS v2 mutation, there may already be a solid groundwork for the new vaccine.
