As we know the dev team is starting to run out of merit ideas *cough cough* donate to church *cough cough* So I am proposing we open up a new line of merits!

How it works

These new breed of merits would be temporary merits or merits that can be lost or gained by certain actions in game. These merits, once gained, would give a merit token that can be used to upgrade abilities as you would a normal merit.

However, if and when you lose this merit, the token goes back as if you never gained the merit in the first place. To avoid abilities resetting as they no longer have the required amount of tokens available, merit tokens can go into the negative. A merit reset would simply reset the amount of tokens back to the amount you've earned.

Once it does go into the negative any merit gain (temporary or permanent) would either decrease the negative number or reset it to zero, meaning that a negative merit token number would effectively lock or reduce any improvement until a reset.

The Reasoning Behind this suggestion

This new concept of having a merit which could disappear at any given time depending on your actions ingame would open up a huge field of new options for the weekly merit. It would be pretty cool to try and maintain your temporary merits.

I feel that it would refresh players intrest by giving them a constant challenge other than faction warfare (which seems to be falling out of favor with the new limits to guesting) and constantly gaining evermore stats which can get kind of boring.

Some "Temporary" Merit Ideas*
  • Beach bum-Live in a PI
  • Drug lord-Have at least one of each drug in your items
  • The Experiment-Unlock SSL
  • The Activist-Be active every day
  • HOF-Be in one of the top ten factions
  • Loyal accomplice-Accept the mission each day
  • Enhanced-Own every enhancer
  • Faithful-Pray each day
  • Bonus round-Play spin the wheel each day
  • Progress-Gain in any HoF subject
  • Worker-Have 100% or above efficiency in your job
  • Addict-Take a drug each day
  • Balanced-Have no more than 10% range of your battle stats
  • Committed chainer-Take part in any chain once a month.
*You can change any of these. They are just a glimpse of what Temporary merits can offer

Thank you for reading and if you didn't read here's a nice summary:
Add merits that can go away.

Additional Ideas (by community)
  • Add merits that can only be held by a limited amount of people-Suggestion by Fizzloges
Before or after you downvote come to me and give me CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I will ignore things like "it's just a stupid idea" or "i don't like it". I try to adjust my suggestions to the common say and will take your advice and blend it into the suggestion.

Idk, if you're being challenged to maintain a certain way, seems like your working towards something rather than pay win or a 1 time win then dip. This idea is neat imo

There's already a shop. Where you can buy merits. It is intentionally intended by developers that you can't max every merit tree, just so you know, as it seems to be what you want to achieve
Honor_Scholar [2172892]
probably wouldn't even say max, much rather it's a temporary fitting

Examples
Suppose you have to pray 180 days, once a day, then you get a merit, if you slip up one day, then the merit goes away and you have to wait a full 180 days again to get that merit again,

Or if you were having to fly specifically to Emirates twice a day for 70 days, you get a merit, and if you miss a day, it would reset and merit is poof - gone!

So...
What ever the requirements be, and the length of days, it's a temporary not a permanent. Has to be challenging, not a walk in the park

What will happen to the upgraded perks at merit skill tree if we lose a merit points ? It reverts one of the perk and get back the merit we used to upgrade the perk before ?

This is why with the introduction to merits you can lose merits can go into the negative with the loss of a temporary merit. No abilities would be taken away but the total amount of spendable merits would decrease.
