Ever felt like you just want to know how to travel properly? Or just felt like you're doing it wrong?
Don't worry, I'm here to help!
Occasionally I'll come across some players who recently upgraded to level 15 and they usually ask something like, " Where should I travel to first?" Or "What does traveling let you do?" I'll put those questions with a couple of FAQ's here, along with some advice.
Some before hands:
While traveling, you cannot do the following things:
- View Company or Faction's profiles, or apply to them.
- The sidebar is absent, meaning you cannot do much things.
However, you can access the following features using a laptop.
- You can check your mail
- You can check the stock market and your portfolio
- You can view the newspaper
- You can view the forums (actually you can already do this without a laptop)
- You can view player's profiles (you can also do this without a laptop)
- You can program a virus.
However, a laptop is costly, and all the above features can actually be done with just a personal computer. To do this, type "https://www.torn.com/pc.php". However, you do need to have a personal computer for this to work.
You will also get mugged a lot if you are in a different country. So i recommend that you try to fly to and back within the time you are online, to prevent getting mugged. At the bare minimum, you can click on "return to torn" before you go offline. However, if you do choose to do a long flight when you are offline, be prepared to get mugged (I got mugged 8 times in a night based on my experience.)
1) So, firstly, what is traveling?
Traveling, to put it very crudely, is basically going to another country, buying items there and reselling it in Torn. Different countries have items that you can purchase, most of these are usually not sold in Torn. To travel, all you have to do is find the "travel agency" on the map (located at the west side), select the country you would like to fly to, and click on travel. Certain countries also have special services you can use.
These include the following:
At Cayman Island's, you are able to use the offshore banking. The offshore banking is like the bank in Torn, except that you are able to store an unlimited amount of money there, and you can deposit or withdraw money anytime as long as you are on Cayman Islands. There are some cons on using the bank on Cayman Islands, which make it a less convenient place to store your money.
Firstly, the interest rate on Cayman Islands is very low (0.5%), and the interest is only added on the first of every month.
Secondly, there are many muggers who will randomly mug someone whom they see on Cayman Islands, in hopes that that person is there to deposit or withdraw money.
Thus, I recommend that you be quick when you are on Cayman Islands and not go offline while there.
At China, you are able to visit the fortune teller, who can tell you how close you are to leveling up for a fee of $75,000. However, if you are level holding, your percentage will appear as "100%".
At South Africa, you are able to spend 10 energy and $500 to hunt. The amount of money you earn will be determined by your hunting skill, and your selected session. Better sessions can be unlocked by increasing your hunting skill. Hunting will slowly let you gain hunting skill. Hunting skill increases at about 0.1 per session when you first start, but it decreases to about 0.025 per session at ~40 hunting skill.
I recommend that you can use about 60 of your energy (more if you're a donator) to hunt if you travel to South Africa. The return flight will regenerate the energy you lost so you can have a small profit.
At Switzerland, you can access one of the most important features. Rehabilitation. Rehabilitation allows you to get less addicted to drugs, and refills your entire happy bar at a fee of $250,000. However, it does get less effective as you use it more and more.
2) What is the point of traveling?
Players usually travel so that they can buy plushies/flowers, and resell them at Torn City for a good profit. Another reason is for the specials listed above. Reselling plushies/flowers usually gives a profit ranging from a few thousand dollars to a few million dollars, which is a good source of money when you are a little short. However, there is a base to how many items you can carry, and that can be increased. We will talk about that later on below.
3) Why should I rent a Private Island?
Apart from the happiness the Private Island gives, if you have an airstrip and a Pilot, your base capacity of 5 items increases to 15 items, which means more profit. You get a further 30% off all traveling times. However, many people who just hit level 15 will have trouble renting a Private Island, let alone buy one. A simple method to solve this is to slut. Slutting means that you attack a person and lose on purpose. You can get around $250,000 - $310,000 per hit that you do, which means that with an energy bar of 100, you can gain $1,000,000 to $1,240,000. The only drawback is that it lowers your win loss ratio (although some people don't care about this, like me.) and uses energy for training. So slut, rent an private island for about 10-30 days, and you're all set.
4) Where should I travel to first?
I recommend that you first travel to Cayman Islands, and buy the stingray plushies (or the banana orchids if the stingray plushies are out of stock.) This will let you get the hang of traveling before you go on to the further locations. Cayman Islands also has a decently short flying time, which is 35 minutes either ways using normal travel, 25 minutes with the airstrip, 13 minutes with the WLT stock benefit, and 8 minutes with a business class ticket.
After you have traveled to Cayman's several times, and gotten about 500K profits, you're ready to travel to the more profitable places. I personally prefer UAE. Traveling to UAE takes 4h 31m using normal travel, 3h 10m with the airstrip, 2h 15m with the WLT stock benefit, and 1h 29m with a business class ticket. There, you can find some items that cost Billions, but those are for much richer players. If you're just there to resell plushies/flowers, I recommend you buy the Tribulus Omanense, or the Camel Plushies. You can get a million doing this. However, UAE is a huge energy burner so newbies may want to train a bit more first.
5) How can I increase my traveling capacity?
There are many ways to do this, and I'll be writing them down.
1) Through Suitcases. Suitcases are purchasable from Hawaii, and come in 3 types. Small, medium and large. The small suitcase lets you carry an additional 2 items, the medium an additional 3 items, and the large an additional 4 items. They cost $2,000,000, $4,000,000 and $10,000,000 respectively. They do not stack, so the maximum extra capacity you can get from these is +4.
<Massive Tip> : If you have DocTorn on your browser, there is a travel hub at the travel agency where you can check all the stock in other countries. Useful for finding out the stock before you fly!

Flower Shop: 7* Perk: Able to buy 5 extra flowers when traveling.
Lingerie Shop: 5* Perk: +2 extra travel items.
Toy Shop: 7* Perk: Able to bring back 5 extra plushies when traveling.
Cruise Liner 3* Perk: +2 extra travel items
Cruise Liner 10* Perk: +3 extra travel items
*Cruise Liner perks can be stacked, so a 10* Perk will let you carry an additional five items altogether*
In addition, there are also faction perks that boost your traveling capacity. These are found under the "Excursion" Branch. It can be upgraded up to 10 times, so the maximum boost you can get from your faction is 10 extra items
