Your post reminded me of something that happened 50 years ago.
We took the dog, a large sized poodle mix, to get trimmed and shampooed for the first time. He didn't like that.
A few hours later we go pick him up and bring him home.
He is so happy to be back and wants to see his best friend Pixie, our Siamese cat. She was napping on the bed. He runs in and Pixie hisses and tried to claw his eyes out. Pudgie, the dog, leapt backwards and I swear he looked like he was heartbroken. I had to hug him until the cat recognized him.
It was so funny.
