I’ve heard from a few guides and players who regularly give advice that training your stats evenly is paramount to attacking and defending. Now, while I understand that there really are no player “builds” in TORN, it does bring up an interesting question: Obviously every player approaches training and stat distribution differently, and there are methods such as whoring where you train one stat way above the others and excel in that one stat as you fall behind in everything else (I don’t like this approach, personally), but what I want to know is what’d happen if you did that for two stats in an effort to build up the specific type of player you wanted to be in battle.

Would having two really high stats (as opposed to one high stat) make you lose often? Or would it simply distinguish you as being a player who excels in those two battle stats and as a result makes things difficult for opponents?

The only two remotely viable pairs would be Strength + Speed and Defense + Dexterity.

First one is a glass cannon: you hit them, and you hit them hard, but unless you end the attack in one shot, they'll hit you back even harder. You can play with it and have fun, but during chains/wars, your med CD will disappear in a blink of an eye, and _they_ will be one-shotting you off the wall much more often than the other way.

The opposite I tried myself, when I whored def+dex heavily in Balboa till I unlocked George. At one point I had my combined defensive stats 60x times higher than offensive ones. Results in a lot of stalemates, chaining is easier, but it makes you an amazing chain target yourself, for a remotely balanced opponent.

Because of the way the training/stats system is designed, if you train 4 stats equally, you will grow the slowest.

With the same amount of E, same amount of time, your total stats will grow the fastest if you train only 1 stat, twice as slow with 2, and so on.

Of course you will be quite useless in battle whoring just 1 stat, severely imbalance builds with 2, my approach is 3, 3 is in the sweet spot between growth and balance.

When you ask this kind of question here, most players will tell you that 4 stats equally is the best, but that's because they don't want you to catch up quick. Put on your tinfoil hat.

No stat left behind. You can keep them unequal to have special gyms unlocked, but abandon any one ~entirely, and you will be crippled.

Exactly even is not the best way at all, but i wouldn’t drop any stat entirely either.

a great ratio for example would be:

offensive stats: 1

defensive stat of your choice: 1,25 - 1,35

other defensive stat: 0,25

This ratio will let you train in special gyms for 3 stats to improve your daily gains while not completely abandoning one or more stats.

"With the same amount of E, same amount of time, your total stats will grow the fastest if you train only 1 stat, twice as slow with 2, and so on."

Only up to the stat cap. Past the 50 mill mark on all 4 stats the only difference is determined by gym dots, different faction steadfast.

Generally speaking for the same number total battlestats even with just the one left behind the balanced stat player would win most of the time.

No. Stat gains are exponential before 50m in each stat, which means if you whore/pump one of them, you will gain faster than doing all 4 evenly

Again, below the stat cap sure thing. Above the stat cap the differences between the special gyms and George's is pretty small per train, over an extended period of time yes it will add up to a higher total, but unless you go very long term I wouldn't say its significant.

In short, once all the stats are past 50 mill all other things being equal a player training 4 stats can keep their total relatively close to a player only training 3 and will usually have an advantage in a fight between the 2. The real difference stat total wise is whether you can afford to SE the one you're not training.

As an aside, the whole 3 stat training was much more viable before the accuracy changes when usually you would train str, spd and defence. The way weapon accuracy used to work you would usually be able to hit a target with relatively low speed vs dex, even through flashes and smokes, so having high defence made more sense as you could mitigate more damage than your opponent.

I firmly believe that the best build (SEs aside) rn is:

1,25 - str
1 - dex, spd
0,75 - def

You have two special gyms, and you are still relatively balanced. And yes, with Flash being so powerful and unblockable, after the accuracy changes, Dex is stronger than Def (again, not taking SEs into account).
