It would be great to be able to send the same message to many friends, people, employees,... outside of faction mails.

It should be so simple, that I was surprised that I didn't find one.

I believe it should be legal to:
  • Use a namelist of recipients, lets call it [NAMES]
  • Have a pre-written text in an extra textfield prepared and saved, lets call it [TEXT]
  • whenever you manually click on "SEND" on the "Compose Message" page the [NAMES] switch to the next one and the [TEXT] becomes the body of the new mail
I believe the script wouldn't make a single click for you, which seems to be the critical thing for something to be illegal here. You basically cycle through your [NAMES] and make the body of the message be the same as your [TEXT].

Is there something like this?

Thank you!

I don't think it's that simple as it would involve quite a bit of UI changes/additions:
  • a new button or another element to start composing a mass message versus a regular message,
  • a new text field ([TEXT]),
  • a new recipients field ([NAMES]),
  • a way to add recipients to [NAMES] - like auto-complete but for multiple names,
  • a modified 'click' handler for the "Send" button when in mass message mode.
However this should be doable.
Would you be willing to pay for the script?

"Simple" is relative. One does not need to add a new button, just work with the existing one... but even if you'd need a new button,... it's not like you've got to draw the pixels yourself.

I've never used java or whatever is used to script here, but I remember that we had like 15 minutes in IT-class in high school to code a more complex calculator than this type of program would be.

Making it look good and work perfectly with other QoL features would obviously be a time sink, depending on the skill.

I don't really ask for somebody to create this script for me, but I wanted to know if something like this already exists - and maybe motivate somebody bored to think "oh, yes, this could be neat, I guess" and share it.

And I shared my "theory" about how it could work, so people could tell me it's forbidden... in case I just am not aware of it.

But... I guess I would be open to offers...

Well, I can tell this wouldn't be a 15 minute task for me. More like a 4 hour task, being cautiously optimistic.

Not even the same ballpark.

You're not allowed send POST requests to the server, which means you would have to send through the normal page, navigate to the page again, populate the fields, send, navigate back, for every message. It would be ugly as sin, and involve automating button clicks, which is forbidden.

Hmmm... you don't know what type of calculators we were forced to make. :P

I'd imagine you could just just back to the original page (https://www.torn.com/messages.php#/p=compose) half a second after the click, or switch the "direct to page X" command of the button towards (https://www.torn.com/messages.php#/p=compose).

This shouldn't generate any clicks.

The script itself should have some kind of imaginary text boxes (3 boxes)
  • Textbox.1 to cycle the [NAMES], which would most likely the biggest effort to make reliable
  • Textbox.2 title of the mail
  • Textbox.3 for the body (content) of the mail, the hard part could be to not destroy the formating of the content with tables, color, whatever
The artificial textboxes would make something like
  • TornNameTextbox=Textbox.1 (so basically whatever is in Textbox.1 will automatically be in TornNameTextbox, as if you put something like =D12 into a field in excel... that field will always mirror D12)
  • same with the other fields
This shouldn't generate any clicks.

Maybe I am naive, because it was an easy programming language and GUI we worked back in high school, but except the basic structure that costs a few lines, a code like that probably wouldn't be longer than this message.... :P

I don't think it would be hard to make that script.

You add a list of names to a script. Then on the "compose" page you add a checkbox for example "send to everyone". Then you write the message in the text box and click "send to everyone". Then the script has a variable "mass_message" for example that is set to true, it autofills the first name. and you click "send". Torn redirects you to inbox, the script redirects you to compose (because the variable is set to true), autofills next name and message. You click send... until you have completed the list and the checkbox has been automatically turned off for example.

I imagine it would make sending 10+ mails a lot easier even if you had to click the "send" button yourself.
I don't make scriptmonkey scripts myself but I do have a browser extension TornTools, if you are interested I can fix something up for you.

The use of scripts, extensions, applications or any other kind of software is allowed only if it uses data from our API or a page you (or your users) have loaded manually and are currently viewing. They cannot make additional non-API requests to Torn, scrape pages that you're not currently viewing, or attempt to bypass the captcha. If the software you're using makes non-API requests that are not manually triggered by you, it is not allowed and can be tracked.

I don't think it is illegal to change the page you are viewing. It doesn't even 100% say that you aren't allowed to auto-click buttons.
Mephiles [2087524]
Fair point. But considering the fact that you had to click 2 buttons then, it would still make things easier as you don't have to fill the names and the message.

It's up to Sheyrak if he wants me to write him a script (I would include it in my extension so he would have to use that too). Or find someone to write a scriptmonkey script for him :P.

My point stands that there is a solution that would involve clicking 2 buttons but would still make sending 10+ mass messages easier.

Just make sure to make sure you don't load the pages until you are ready to view them using the "Don't load tabs until selected" setting... otherwise you are breaking the rule of Torn.

This will help with part of your issue.

I also created an auto-fill script for my own purposes, allowing me to create dynamic content based on who I am sending the msg to. Only way to change the content is to edit the code XD.
