Why do people want to train at this gym (yeah, highest gains, I know) but isn't it just way more expensive to attempt to compete with the druggies? Is it just an ego thing? People want to make it harder on themselves?

Different playing styles really, you don't have to play the same exact way for maximum gains which can be very boring and not fun at all. this game is all about making your own style of gameplay and creating your own character.
All of the above plus no flying to Switzerland for rehab, or OD.
LSD is the worst when it comes to ODs tho
edit: you do have to pop tons of LSDs and use boosters which would make this playstyle more expensive than xanax. and also rehab for lsd.

Not all SSL players take LSD
that is very true, some don't do any drugs.
I used my SSL for just over a year until I finally unlocked George's gym. Now I am a 3 Xanax a day player lol.
Xanax is expensive but if you want to keep up with xanax users in ssl you're going to spend more on boosters than xanax users will ever spend on drugs
