Normally ur loan cap increases by paying him back.
But if you dont payback Duke after a certain amount of time, he will start mugging you and bountying you.

Once you owe enough and for long enough he mugs for 100% of your cash on hand. Seems scripted as well because he would mug me with it seconds of withdrawing money from the vault.
As the above said, Duke isn’t happy when he’s not paid back. And if you take out a significant amount, he makes your game very un-fun for a while if you don’t pay him. I believe the bounties add towards the money you owe him too. And he will try to mug you to pay off your debt.
And usually if you go inactive with a massive Duke loan and come back.. it’s not a fun experience either.
So if you plan to take a loan, do it for the Loan Shark merit and that’s it, or at the very least make sure you can pay back whatever you take out.

Definitely scripted one way or another. A friend of mine got mugged for a large lump some of money the other day, immediately after his RR opponent squeezed the trigger and lost.
Do it as quickly as you can, imo. The longer you draw it out, the worse it gets! If it’s a smaller amount, do some flying and all that jazz. Or even losses if you must. Good luck :)
Yeah just go for the merrit and be done with it. No other real good reason to lend money from Duke. Just keep loaning the max you can, check every day and loan more, until you get the honor and pay it all back
