Hi,

Nowadays, many factions have very nice perks and in some cases, they have some members not active enough to justify it.

My suggestion is to include a maintenance cost to respect and to most challenges.

Something like 1% of your respect is lost naturally on a monthly basis or 0.3% daily.

Same kind of logic to be implemented with faction challenges. For example, agression, Steadfast and all perks would slowly degrade and would require to be maintained by continuously performing the challenge to keep the benefit available.

This way, if a faction is not active enough to maintain its level, it would slowly degrade.

I think busting perks is a good example. Those perks are getting very common nowadays, you often will only see a few foks in the jail.

That was rarely the case before.

Maybe a certain, minimum level of activity is needed to maintain the respect, otherwise respect starts to evaporate as per the original suggestion?

Alternatively, raiding a faction can cause perks to get unset? Reduce a faction's respect enough and maybe it loses a bunch of perks. Leaders get a day's grace to decide which to lose or they disappear in a last-in first-out order?

As nice as it'd sound, it'd disproportionally hit the highest factions who may have worked hard to get to that point and now you're forcing them to never stop working just to hold onto it, turning the game into a grindfest just to hold onto their work that they earned.

If this was to ever go through, the costs of respect for things, as well as the challenge requirements would have to go down, by a lot, as a lot of them simply aren't even viable to maintain even if just at a 1% loss because of just how big that 1% happens to be.

In other words, this would actually require a complete redesign of the balance of faction perks to work properly, and would greatly harm reviver factions who can't maintain their own revive bonuses without no longer being a pure reviver faction.

TL;DR. I agree with the idea behind your suggestion, but not the mechanism proposed.

From the wiki: "Factions will lose 1 respect per day. This is to help remove low-respect, inactive factions from the game."

At the current rate of respect loss, it takes over 13 years for a 5,000 respect faction to be destroyed. That is far too slow, especially since Torn is only 15 year old! This loss is also so minor that most players don't know it exists.

The proposed mechanism would remove 1% of respect per month. Since respect is not a decimal number, 1% losses need to be rounded up to the next whole number. A faction gaining no respect with 100 respect would take 100 months (8 years!) to be destroyed.

If the alternative proposed mechanism to remove 0.3% daily is rounded up, factions with 332 respect would take 332 days to be destroyed. That is far different and much better. Recommend clarifying your suggestion for daily adjustment.

A newly created faction (5,000 respect) would start losing 15 respect per day and take just over 3 years to be destroyed.

I don't agree with implementing just the mechanism proposed. Smaller factions will struggle just to keep their meager benefits.

Also, there will be widespread discontent if factions do not receive some sort of mechanism to offset the increased losses from the proposed mechanism. I tried, cannot come up with a mechanism that would balance these losses for active factions.

Some small factions struggle enough as it is. Friendly walls just got nerfed. Let's not make it any more difficult to be an independent small faction. (It's already impossible considering how many "alliances" exist".

If you're worried about the tops teams dominating, join them. Imagine the joy of never having to chain because you've maxed out all your perks.

That would absolutely RUIN small and starting factions.
It's hard enough trying to find active players that will remain active and grow as it is, and they gain perks extremely slowly to begin with.
Plus it would great great imbalance, weaker factions would become weaker, bigger factions wouldn't be affected, and that would create a huge interstice with nothing in between. I'm sorry, but I absolutely disagree with this idea.

A 5 million respect faction would naturally loose 1.6k respect per day. A 100k faction would loose 33 respect per day.

How would it ruin small faction ?
