This is one of those things that doesn't sit well with me.
Without going into too much detail the player shown below cannot login due to personal circumstances to the best of my knowledge yet due to the subscriber system being a direct debit format money will be taken from him in real life until obviously the payment method fails ?

They could have paid for a year up front. You can’t cancel that, but you can stop future annual payments.
This is why you link it with paypal, you can cancle all subscription from there. Makes life easy

But suppose this person no longer has the ability to access their PayPal & Bank also,

If you set it up this way then yes, it will pull it however often you set it to. But if the subscription was canceled prior then no it would not pull until they decide to renew it.

should you be held accountable for how you spend your money and what auto payments you tie it to?
i guess depending on how you answer those will determine where you stand on this question.
My best guess is if they can get to the torn discord by any chance maybe one of the staff that hang out in there might be able to assist in this kind of scenario. Might not be a bad idea to try to message bogie and ask him on his thought on this.
I mean, isn’t this the same as what would happen anywhere else? Amazon prime, mobile phone bills etc. Until you cancel, you’re paying. The company you pay isn’t gonna ask every few months if you wish to keep going.
Also, some things are prepaid, like a year of subscriber service. That could be the case here.
People forgetting they are subbed is like half the reason subscriptions exist.
But ultimately that's what the deal is. You pay x amount each month until you say stop. So what role does torn have other than listening for you to say stop? Playing or not your account still has those perks. And who's to say a person doesn't want to just collect sub rewards while they are gone for a year or two?
A cell phone bill, a power bill, whatever will continue to charge you the same way.
How I read this being they were sent to the hospital or something to that affect where they literally can not access it, but on any other regard I do have to agree with you.

i would think that Ched is abiding by all applicable laws regarding recurring payments.
therefore id say yes, it is.
im quite sure this issue has been brought before some kind of panel somewhere regarding this. that and without proof to the contrary i have to lean towards Ched being a fine and ethical businessman.
I think whether or not you think it is ethical to keep the sub going heavily depends on if you think a person would expect it to keep going until they specifically stopped it when they signed up.
Id also say subscriptions like this are tied to tons of things in our lives and they all would continue forever until they went out of business, you stop the payments, or the payments fail. Your TV, stream services, cell phone, power, ect ect.
Do you know a person that is both unable to get onto the game and paying a sub that they dont want to be that they cant cancel? Or does it just bother YOU that it is still going?
Stupud question. They paid in advance for their subscription. Also, why does it even matter?
