Newbies now have hundreds of sources for Tutorials for every single thing in Torn. Years back, there was no such thing. Not to mention, older players had ZERO access to all the companies which are available nowadays, the faction steadfasts were earnt by members. Nowadays a new player expects a faction to provide XXX and they give nothing in return.
If the only way to make money is flying, small trades.... then that literally tells you everything you need to know. Putting in 0 effort deserves close to nothing in return. Stat gains are naturally going to be bad- everyone knows about exponential growth and the beginning of everything including stats is going to be the hardest period for gains. Torn is a long term game, if you cant wait to get to the stat game this game isn't for you.
Nubs have plenty ways to store money. In stocks, items, points, ghost trades (when awake), company vault, faction vault (if they trust them ofc). You can self hosp in like 20 ways...... lose an RR game, loss to a player, pay for a hosp, SED ect. Also, if you want instant access to your cash, then go put more effort in. New players need to be spoonfed less. There has never been another period of time where ched for almost solely for noobs.. Competitive warring + Crimes 2.0, nerfs to ANYTHING criminal isn't in sight, but travelling colour's, Icron updates, no nerfs to trading are perfectly normal.
The truth is the game has never been easier for noobs. Its just that the standards of new players have pretty much become really shit.
@OP If there wasn't a cap for when BB used UNLIMITED SE's, (when there was no cap on how many SEs you can use at the same time) then there is no need to set a cap now.
Capping at 50b doesn't solve your god tier players issue either.
There would still be people that just 50b all stats and still keep chugging them and you will still never be able to touch them. If you don't like people being stronger than you then get better.
The group mechanic is the already existing solution to this "problem".
If BB as near 5k taken se's... and the majority dont like capping gains. then cap the amount of SE one can take. As I understand it, he was able to use se without cooldowns back in the day.. that kinda dampens the ability of anybody catching him today. So if limiting how much each se gives is not the answer, limit how many one can take at 5k.
"well what happens to BB, what does he do when he hits cap?" He is already tied back on NPC from what i gather in terms of how and how often he can hit Duke ect. Seems a static cap might be the only way. This wouldnt effect others for as vladar as stated, for 10-15 years.
We have books that are limited to one. We have job points limited to X number of times a day. So why not limit the amount of SE one account can take? (nothing against BB for winning at torn stats)
Edit: The argument that "these stats gods wont be playing in 10-15 years" They havent looked at how many ppl have been playing the last 10-15 years actively . That number, should ched able to keep running, will only remain the same/increase when we reach that next milestone in years.
Considering the majority of players (or some?) that have used thousands of SE's could only do so after amassing insane sums of money from exploiting game mechanics, the least that can be done is to add a cap.
That said... I secretly (and selfishly) wish that the 1% gain was higher - F dropping 450m for 10m Dex
I disagree with the item changing at various stages, I believe the real fix is to introduce diminishing returns.
Diminishing returns means that, for example, up to 1B in each stat everything is linear. If you go from 1B to 2B, effectively you would have 1.75B if it were linear. Furthermore, the higher your stats go, the less effective they are, had it been a linear growth. Basically we would see people with 10B total being able to defeat people with 20B total in 2 attacks.
This would also force a more balanced set of battle stats, if you have 100T today, effectively you would have 500B or 1T, depending on how the diminishing return is set up. I'd even argue for a hard cap in battle stats, where you would need to increase your stat ten-folds to effectively increase your stat by 1%.
I got a lot of hate last time I posted this, would expect nothing else now.... But this is the only way to balance the game.
Well if nothing else we’re encouraging some good discussion, keep the thoughts coming - we all love this game, and I think this is an important issue so let’s talk about what to do, if anything!
I gave this a R+ because you did the math and it was comforting to my eyes, wouldn't a better solution to give SE a decreasing value ? Like it randomly drop effectiveness down .0002 (for example) give it the same odds of a ecstasy overdose it doesn't effect the top end now but limits it as a more long term solution
So I think the issue with changing how it works is that it wouldn’t be fair to all the people who are in the middle of using them - those before them would have had a major advantage
New property: Mom's house. 10K Base happy. No upkeep. Mom kicks you out on day 30 for not paying upkeep like a bum.
No new revenue needed, so no vets exploiting it. Cuts off the very start of the ramp up of the exponential gains. No upkeep allows nubs to save for their first PI slightly easier.
Edit: This is more showing that throwing money at the problem (as they see it) isn't the only way to skin a cat, more than it is a genuine thing I want to see implemented.
I think whatever way you spin it there will always be a super elite group of old players. Torn is quite unique in that it’s such a long term game old players really are leagues ahead of newer players. But that’s also the beauty of it. Players come and go and less and less elite old timers are around and we’ve seen a good amount of prodigies put themselves into the top 100 HOF in record breaking time.
New players are carving paths at ridiculous rates. I don’t believe much if anything needs changing to be honest. No doubt we’ll see a bunch of old timer behemoths leave and new ones come out of the woodworks. Hell I plan on being one some day.
Sorry to R- but I really don’t see this as a solution and to be honest I don’t see it as much of a problem either
Capping the gain to 5 trillion per SE upon hitting 500 trillion on the respective battlestat sounds very reasonable and future-proofs the game against compounding gains that ultimately could (and eventually would) negate the distraction mechanic for group fights.
I'm not entirely sure this is a "problem" but certainly get the logic behind trying to prevent runaway exponential growth that ultimately makes the game less competitive.
I'd be interested to hear what BB and the rest of the Megazords would have to say if they were no longer allowed to compete in official Torn events such as Dog Tags and Elimination or had a %-chance to be auto-kicked from walls in future years if a cap wasn't implemented.
..... lets end the discussion this way.... Every one sends me 1trillion and i will personally, at huge personal pain, volunteer to use a few thousand SEs so we can really see if this becomes a problem, nothing like trying....
I think the old adage of 'don't fix what isn't broken' applies here. We have literally a couple of people who could / would do this. Revise this when / if it becomes an issue. I highly doubt it will though.
There will always be outliers, why handicap a player for working hard and getting to a point where now they get less for their $? Should they then have to pay less for that SE because they get less than someone below a cap?
