I'll probably skip the 30xx generation completely.
Been playing on laptops for a while, and just bought myself a new one with a RTX 2070 (upgrade from my previous gtx 1070), considering i expect it to last at the very least the 2 years of warranty, i'll wont upgrade till the 40xx are out.
But they seem quite a an upgrade from the 20xx, that is for sure.
Will definitely be trying the 3090 first! Super interested to see how 8K is going to be without DLSS. They posted the specs, but everything is different on paper. Weird that they didn't post the 3090's 4K performance and I'm hoping the G-Sync 4k 144hz monitors finally have the hardware to support them without some crazy tweaks!
I was sticker shocked when looking up 4k 144hz monitors. I feel like the monitor technology needs to play catch up to drive the prices of these higher end monitors down.
Not gonna lie... I bought a 2080 ti several months ago. Really wish I had waited. But! It just means my gf will get an upgrade sooner lol. Because I really really want that 3090.
I won't be upgrading unless the 3070 has a marked improvement at £600.
I paid about £1300 for my 2080ti at launch and expected to be running it for the next 5 years tbh lol.
As has been mentioned, 4k gaming is still creeping into the public gaming consciousness and is not yet the norm. I'm hoping the ps5 and xbox will prompt tv manufacturers to do more in the way of serious 4k gaming tv's, and monitors. ROG has a big one but its thicc and curved and not 55".
I play on a 55" LG Oled at 60hz which is fine for me, HDR on monster hunter and RTX stuff looks great, but the tv has finally started to show its wear after nearly 3 years. Just praying for that technology leap in oled and flatscreens cos atm there must be so many cheap branded ones going into landfill after 2 years.
The 3070 is suppose to be equal to the 2080 ti. So no point in upgrading unless you plan to push that 4k at 144hz. They claim the 3090 can do 8k at 30 fps. I haven't looked into what an 8k monitor would cost... but any gamer is going to want more than 30 fps anyway lol.
I didn't think about the new consoles coming out, but you're right. Hopefully that will really help push new technology to the norm space and bring down the prices of these higher end tv and monitors.
The LG 27GN950 is a newer monitor that offers 4k resolution, 144hz, 1 ms response time, for $800. It's currently unavailable everywhere, assuming covid pushed things back. But I'm thinking I might pick one up. It seems like it would make a great match with a 3080 or 3090.
