Makes sense. I was thinking either buying 'I see dead people' // 'Heres johnny' // 'doubler' // 'candyman' // 'sweet release' and then going ham on it for tasty candies, or just investing it all for next year.

You're prob right though. Ill regret it next year if I dont just upgrade as much as i can.

i had to leave it on the page for 15 minutes showing the baskets then just hit yes when it got to restock time. i didnt refresh from the last try when i got them to show but they were out of stock and just waited to click yes on buy once it got to the "restock time" at 5-7 seconds after the next 15 minute mark. FINALLY AFTER 4 HOURS!!

I must be extremely lucky having defeated 10 people since the event started and yet gained no treats.
The probability of this is 0.65^10 = 0.0135. Should probably spin the 1m wheel as my chances to win a PI are likely very high today...

I hiiiiighly recommend investing in all six "I" branch upgrades before exchanging a single treat, the return is crazy-high on those and will snowball your treat gains early-on. (be sure to wear a spooky clothing item and use a spooky weapon!)

I'd also lean toward unlocking the Bloody Mary, Nice Chianti, Nightcrawler, and It's Alive upgrades in the "II" branch, Dark Power and Freebie upgrades in the "III" branch, and Multipack and Deal With the Devil upgrades in the "IV" branch before considering exchanging treats. (Patience going to be required here) The ROI is quite high on those as well. If you are patient enough; note that it'll most likely make sense to save up 1,000 treats after unlocking everything on the "I" branch and then using those 1,000 treats on the Shadow of Doubt upgrade for a bonus +100 treats before completing the Multipack, Deal with the Devil, Freebie, and Dark Power upgrades. (1,100 - 320 - 180 - 285 -120 = 195 treats left; which is under the 200 treat threshold for no energy opportunity cost)

The Cashback and Cold Sweat upgrades are pretty expensive for what they do, but likely worth investing in for the long-term, especially if you care about nerve and want to hedge against Crimes 2.0 time-gated progress in the future. The Cashback bonus has a lot of synergy with Dark Power and will definitely enhance the total number of attacks you can dish out.

The Save Your Tears upgrade is really only useful for players who need the 99,999 happiness merit, left a stat WAY behind (like sub 1m), or are interested in selling their happiness to rich noobs/restarts who are using poison mistletoes to happy jump. But who knows... happy might be an important coefficient in Crimes 2.0.

The Mortal Coil bonus is pretty "meh" since you're looking at a 3 year break even point before getting a measly 168 treats per year thereafter. (Keep in mind, in three years you should be averaging more than 1.0 treat per attack due to the other upgrades... and who knows what will happen between now and then with regard to this event )

The Inflation upgrade makes no sense to me with that huge upfront 777 treat investment... especially considering you have to exchange all your treats at once; and any treat over 200 exchanged is -5e in opportunity cost from the Dark Power upgrade since you can only sit with 1,000 energy at a time. (-500 happy too, but who cares, right?) You'd likely be looking at nearly a decade-long investment horizon before breaking even; especially considering the treats could be exchanged for consumables which could be liquidated with the cash invested in a dividend stock/bank/Cayman/PIs-to-rent earning interest all year as opposed to just during the 7 day Halloween event.

The Cat in Hell is a straight crapshoot at 1:500,000 but you better believe I'll be investing the thirteen treats into it!

Summon Cthulhu
is anyone's guess. It better be insanely powerful to make it worth exchanging 9,999 treats for though. You're looking at somewhere in the realm of a quarter-million energy (a year's worth of xanax) to unlock that.

Using upgrade for bucket upgrades (that do cost your treats) and bucket level upgrades (which dont) is slightly confusing.

Thanks for taking the time to write all this out.

How do you "upgrade" tiers? I thought you needed to get all the upgrades from one tier to be able to move on to the next tier, but IceBlueFire's last comment mentions skipping tiers so idk anymore.

So with ALL tier I treat-drop-bonuses unlocked and highest basket, clothing, weapon finish would be the average treat / attack?

Also I can't wait in 10 years when someone can succesfully harvest energy from this event :D
