As of late, I have noticed that Torn (doesn't matter which page is being viewed) is using a lot more memory and CPU than normal..
I can refresh reddit and any other pages just fine and they're at almost 0% CPU usage, but Torn is using more than some light Desktop games..

Sometimes upwards of 20% CPU usage and 200MB of memory.. This is not normal.

Tested on MacOS Catalina 10.15.5, Chromium 83.0.4103.116 and Firefox 78.0.2, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4980HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz, 16GB of RAM.

Do you have loads of chat windows open perhaps?

Can you please also once try clearing out the site data for Torn from your browser settings and see if it improves situation?

I feel like I've experienced this as well and it happens most notably on systems that are using chromium and integrated graphics. On my surface laptop, I noticed the issue occurred for me during a transition from the "okay" to hospital page. The issue lasted on all torn pages and was only resolved when I fully closed my browser (I mean all tabs included not just Torn).

If you're really interested in scoping out what causes it, you might try to use the inbuilt chrome performance recorder and find out what task is eating all your resources. I always felt like it was the hospital/jail check script that runs on every page that caused the issue. But I'm just talking out my ass here without being able to reproduce it.

I tried all of it. Even rebooting. Nothing works.
I ended up switching to Firefox instead. Works just fine.

I decided to try to debug it using Chrome's performance tools.. before debugging, I got: [image: i.imgur.com]

After debugging it, I see a TON of calls to `requestAnimationFrame`.. I see the same in FF, but it takes a ton less resources and it's much much faster to complete (IE: less duration)..

Still no idea which scripts are causing it (if any) or what is happening, but for now, I've switched to FF just for Torn and use Chromium for everything else.

I've also experienced this issue and the problem of high cpu is much worse while travelling. It might be because of refresh of travel time shown.

Also getting ridiculously high CPU usage. Flame chart for me shows it's to do with a on message handler, I guess websocket so chat or the sidebar?

Other issues I believe are related to this is the fact the page goes black at random while scrolling. I am on a Macbook Pro late 2016 if it could be related to device etc.

Edit: So I just blocked the script for chat via uBlock origin, CPU usage is now at a normal level. Likely something to do with how chat handles incoming messages is causing a problem.

I have the same problem on Ubuntu in Chrome, Chromium and Firefox. It's definitely only on the in-flight page and the map. Using a script to block the plane/background animation solves it on the travel page. I don't seem to need to block chat.

If I don't close the tab or block the animation within about 30 minutes, the CPU usage gets so high my whole laptop locks up and I have to hard reset. But it gets to 200% already within minutes.

I've tried disabling all extensions, reinstalling the browsers. Nothing helps.

I only notice this when there's activity on Torn i.e Loading a page, etc.

It seems fine if the page is just static, like if you just leave it on your faction chaining page.

Well this has gotten serious now, I have my laptop overheating after using Torn for 5 minutes, this didn't happen when I ran a video call with screen sharing for 2 hours straight.

I get high battery/cpu usage on the city map page.

Latest OSX, latest Chrome . Been this way for years.

If you disable the news ticker & refresh the page does this help? I noticed it causing a lot of stuttering on my phone so I have it disabled, I mentioned it a while ago and haven't re-enabled it since to check.

Hopefully it helps at least a little.
