During discussions within the committee, I'm having some struggles with groups of players that have different opinions and view points. This is a good thing, the committee is meant to be as diverse as possible, however it also occasionally makes some specific things very difficult to unanimously agree upon. Right now we're discussing an essential balancing update which could quite dramatically change the warring scene, so it's very important that we get it right.
I was hoping to gather a little feedback on the public's thoughts, I'm very curious to see how you generally feel about one thing in particular... Very simply put, what direction would you like to see Torn moving in? Should Torn be more casual (fast, fun and entertaining), or more hardcore (slow, serious and meaningful).
Of course, things aren't as black and white as this, and there will always be a good mix of both. But I'm interested to see what the general preference is. If you don't feel strongly either way, then please simply opt out. These results won't necessarily determine a decision, but they may well help to guide us in the preferred future direction.
On a real, ranked warring is what everyone would love to have. AND a system not heavily relying on revives aka money. You stated in the past you value activity over stats. But activity means f**k all if you spend 5-10b+ a day on solely revives.
Would be a lot more fun if you can make warring affordable... and promote real fights. Could bring back a lot of old players out of retirement.
Proxima disliked your post TORN - Hardcore or Casual?
I like how Torn falls more towards a hardcore game that can be played casually. I personally love the slower, more serious, and strategic pace I've adopted for this game.
sorta like the balance WoW has, you can play here and there to have fun but to be up there with everyone competitively it takes some time and dedication.
i feel like this wording is kinda biased and would make more people pick casual..people play this game for fun? Hardcore can be fun too? some examples would have been nice, but i'm guessing Hardcore = ranked warring etc and pro-active changes and not just the changes for casual players who travel all day (blue screen for flying etc) so i'm going for Hardcore.

Knowing torn community they'd min/max anything casual with guides upon guides upon graphs, sucking all the fun out of it in the process so let's stop lying to ourselves and go with HARDCORE from the start!
I don't feel like I can answer one way or the other. Perhaps some examples or a more in depth description of both Casual and Hardcore. Really Torn does and should continue to cater for both. I like that the two plus years of consistency I have put into the game is paying off and I am getting stronger than a lot of more casual players. I also like competitions and wars for their faster more "high octane" playstyle and I am excited at the prospect of eventual ranked warring being both a mix of short term action and long term rewarding gameplay.
I've personally voted for casual. Like not saying change the core mechanics of, that would be really unfair to a lot of older players who happen to be hardcore players. But I do think experience for casual players can be enhanced if there's something to do while travelling since travelling is a main source of income (maybe more countries can be added or different facilities can be added in already existing destinations etc)
I like the deep complexity of the game, the amplitude of choices, and I like it to be fun and entertaining. But hardcore, all the way. I prefer Civilization over Age of Empires.
naah I remember the old slow warring system, sitting in hosp for days on end, managing a tedious warbase, slow chaining when 90% of it was red and no available targets.
There's plenty of slow and meaningful elements to Torn as it is, stat gains, crime progression and the long term merits, new and old. I would consider territory fights and raiding as pretty slow and meaningful, tactical fights so that element of warring already exists imo.
If it were up to me, the new ranked warring system should be fast and chaotic, separate the men from the boys. If you can't take getting bitch slapped 24/7 then why are you competing in the upper tiers.
