[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]This guide is designed for people just getting started in Torn. It is meant to cover the basics. *This guide will be subject to change if I feel the need to add to it, or change something if it’s wrong! (Please let me know if anything is inaccurate, or anything else should be added). Here is a link to another forum FULL of great guides: [/background]
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=61&t=15999874&b=0&a=0[/background]
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)] If you want to research any subject more in depth than this guide provides (which I highly suggest), that guide list is an excellent place to look.[/background]

Piggy Bank: You will have the chance to buy a pig bank ONLY during your first 6 days of gameplay (starting the day you make your account). Do missions until you have enough points to get it, then do so. This shouldn’t be hard, as the first missions are very easy. Get it, and do NOT break it! Currently: you can NEVER get a second one, or get one at all if you miss it during the first 6 days. You can put an unlimited amount of money into the piggy bank: protecting it from muggings, or your own foolish spending (I know I have made plenty of bad “investments”). Save it until you have played for a few years, and know a bit more (or until you’ve done plenty of research into stock blocks). Then: IF you decide to break it, be ready to make a good investment with all of that hard earned cash!

Training: You will need to train your stats in the Gym if you want to be competitive (or even just OK) in combat. Happiness affects the rate at which you gain stats when training (higher happy = better gains). The very maximum Happiness you can get up to is 99,999, and it resets (down to your current "maximum", or increases a bit if it was under your current "maximum") every 15 minutes starting on the hour. Your max Happiness will be determined by which property you have and what upgraded you have for it. So: you will want to either rent a property with a decent Happiness capacity, or try to find a spouse who has one and move in with them. Here is a link to rent properties: https://www.torn.com/properties.php?step=rentalmarket

Drugs can MASSIVELY affect your training (in a positive way). Drugs are costly, and Overdosing is even more so. If you are going to use drugs (as about 95% of people in Torn) be prepared to Overdose and fly to Switzerland to pay millions for rehab. Xanax is the go to drug, as it adds 250 energy. They typically cost around 830K each.

Now: a bit on the ever controversial Sports Science Lab (SSL). Using too many drugs can lock you out of the end gym that has the 2nd best gains in the game the SSL. (There is a "secret" gym that has better gains, but any sort of discussion about how to get into it is not permitted). Just going the drug route is better unless you are playing for VERY long term, AND very actively training (if you slip up on your training regime doing SSL, you won’t be able to compete with someone doing drugs). If you think not using drugs to do SSL will be a cheaper route, think again. Serious SSL training is significantly more costly than doing drugs. It takes daily use of several of the best Energy Drinks (a little over 4M each), and a pricey Feathery Hotel Coupon (about 13.3M each). ...Not to mention you have to spend basically ALL of your energy in the Gym. This means: not doing all available missions, and/or mugging people, or seriously helping on chains and war (which most factions don’t like).

If you aren’t going SSL or using drugs for some reason, candy is a cheap (albeit much less effective) alternative. Once you have a decent amount of money (I believe it’s 27 million, 42 if you’re using FHC’s), look into “Happy Jumps.” There are several guides on it in the guide forum above, but this one by Acephalous [2690028] [background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]is pretty great: [/background]How to gain faster in gym | Tutorials & Guides | TORN.[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]
Combat: [background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]After combat there are three options (unless you get more from a mission) presented to you: Leave, Mug, and Hospitalize. Choosing Leave will get you the most amount of experience, and give them only a small amount of hospital time. Choosing Mug will get you a small percentage of the cash they have on hand, this amount can be increased with Merits. And lastly: choosing Hospitalize will give them the most amount of hospital time, which can also be increased with Merits. Hospitalize is the best option during war, as it will max out their medical cooldown fastest and force them to buy revives to remain competitive.[/background][background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]Go to your Preferences and adjust your Attack settings. Under “While defending” turn off reloads. You can still keep your Primary and Secondary weapons at a high usage percentage if they are better than your melee weapon, but taking the time to reload during a defend can be the difference between winning and losing. I would also consider setting temporary weapon usage while defending to 0, as it can be costly going through them while you are not online.

You should get yourself a decent Melee weapon. A Macana is a decent starting melee weapon, primary and secondary weapons are more of a personal preference. I like things with high accuracy and decent damage: I went with a Mag 7 for primary, and a BT MP9 for secondary. Here is a link to the item market: https://www.torn.com/imarket.php#/p=market&cat=melee-weapon. [background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]Make sure and buy plenty of ammo at Big Als Gun Shop, here is the link: [/background]

Chaining: This is how most factions get the bulk of their respect. Chaining is when people from your faction make several successful attacks in a row, all within a certain amount of time. You get bonuses to respect for hitting certain numbers in a chain (such as but not limited to: 10 attacks, 100 attacks, 500 attacks, exect). I don’t know a whole lot about chaining, but Proxima [1879587] has a GREAT guide on it right here: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=61&t=16025016

Crimes: Doing crimes is how you raise your Natural Nerve Bar (NNB). This is what determines your base Nerve for doing things like: crimes, busting others out of Jail, or trying to break out of Jail yourself. Doing crimes with a green result (success) will raise your Crime Experience (CE), but doing them with a blue result (fail but not so bad) won’t affect CE and getting a red result (fail bad) will negatively affect your CE. Your CE determines where your NNB is at. If you fail enough crimes, your NNB will go down. See a list of safe crimes from the Guide List forum: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=61&t=15927418

Education: There are litteral real life YEARS of education to be done in Torn (about 7.223 years worth). So do what you can to reduce your education time. You can reduce it with: Merits (up to 20% education time reduction), WSSB Stock Block (approximately $78 million, for another 10% reduction), getting promoted to principal in the starter job (Education): for another 10% reduction (even when you leave the job). With all of these it reduces the total education time down to 4.334 years. (Although it will actually be how ever much longer it took you to GET all of those things [+ time to get everything, +time between starting new educations, -time of education already done])...

There are other job specials and single use items that can reduce the education time a little bit, but these aren’t really worth it in my opinion.

Here are the more important educations to get finished (unless you are going to own your own company, then basically all of the Business courses are good). There are several courses you will probably want to finish first, they are in bold and underlined.

Getting into a Faction or Job: Both factions and companies will want you to be active (usually a minimum of once a day). Some factions have a lot more in the way of expectations than others. Some jobs require much higher working stats. Chat with different leaders to see what would be a good fit for you and your play style. Being in a faction can be a powerful thing, giving you more friends to back you up and give you advice. But remember: your faction and company are not your personal posse, so try to keep them out of your personal squabbles.

Making Money: There are lots of ways to make money in Torn. Some people WILL try to scam you, be cautious while doing business. A decent way to spot scammers (although not always accurate) is to check someone's' friends to enemies ratio. If they have lots more enemies than friends, be careful.

1: Selling Losses (Slutting). This is when you attack someone, and purposefully loose. You will want to have medical items to be able to get yourself out of the hospital. Typically losses sell for between 200,000 and 300,000 each. 250k is a fairly standard price, you can get a better price doing bulk losses.

2: Selling Run-aways. This is when you initiate an attack, and successfully run away. It is substantially harder than selling losses. You need good speed (close to or better than your target) to ensure an escape, along with good defense or dexterity to withstand or evade at least one attack (you can’t run away on the first turn of combat). Runaways typically sell for between 500K and 1M.

3: “Running” Flowers and/or Plushies. This, is a lot of people's first main goal. Once you get to level 15, you unlock the ability to fly to different countries. The main purpose of this is to buy things overseas, then bring them back and sell them. The main items people buy are flowers and plushies. These are valuable, because people exchange “sets” of them for points. Points are a valuable resource (weather used, or sold). Typically the further the location you fly to, the more valuable the plushie will be back in Torn. Check the following links before traveling to make sure the item you are flying for will still be in stock when you get there. Remember to take enough money to buy what you need, and try to be in and out. Muggars lurk overseas and revives typically cost double here (you can't use medical items overseas).

Flower/Plushie Running Links:
Travel Agency: https://www.torn.com/travelagency.php
Overseas Item Stock (updated often): https://arsonwarehouse.com/foreign-stock

There are a few things you can do to make this more lucrative. There are faction perks that will increase the number of “travel items”. This is the number of items you can bring back with you on your return flight to Torn. There are also 3 sizes of Suitcases you can buy off of the item market or through trade, these also increase your number of travel items (suitcases do not stack with each other, and only the largest applies. So just go for the large one). Getting a property with an airstrip (find a spouse with one) will reduce travel time by 30%. There IS the Wind Lines Travel Stock Block (9M shares of WLT in one stack) that will reduce travel time by 50%... But this will NOT stack with an airstrip, and costs about 4.4 BILLION.

4: Buying and Selling Points. This is a more hands on approach to trading. You need to be active, and pay attention. As with most trading: the more money you have available for it, the more you can make. The value of Points typically fluctuates by a few hundred a day. This is probably one of the most mug prone areas of trade. You can start with as little as a few million dollars investment, or just a few points (from exchanging item sets for points at the Museum, which is unlocked by completing the History education course).

5: Trading. This is the age old “buy low sell high” method. It is ideal to invest into a Bazaar if you are going to be a trader. They cost 250 Points, which is about $12.25M. There are many different items that are bought and sold regularly. The more money you have to invest in product, the more profit you can make. Be careful when listing high value items, as you have a decent chance of getting mugged.
Some traders only buy things when the value of that item is particularly low, then list it for a moderately above average price. Doing it this way makes it take quite a bit longer to make a sale, but you still make a profit when you DO get mugged.

6: Selling Revives. You can unlock the ability to revive people that are in the hospital. I only go into so much detail here because I am a reviver. SPOILERS.

If you want to be a reviver, first get into someone's company who does free daily trains. While there, get a position that focuses on raising your intelligence. Do this until you have a MINIMUM of 9,330 Intelligence.

The Medical profession requires 300 Int to start, and 10,000 to unlock Brain Surgeon. You will gain 670 INT in the Medical profession as you progress towards the Brain Surgeon Rank, giving you JUST enough INT by the time you need 10K (if you started at 9,330) to “unlock” the last promotion.

Now that you have the intelligence you need, use the newspaper to start the basic job in the “Medical” profession. Spoilers for question answers (highlight them to see them better, sorry I can't make them white to make it so you can't see them at all without highlighting).

Question 1: A patient has an embedded object in their arm and it has penetrated an artery. How would you treat it? Answer: Apply a dressing around the object and get them to a hospital.
Question 2:How much blood is in the average adult? Answer: 5 liters.
Question 3:Tachycardia refers to what? Answer: An accelerated heart rate.
Question 4: What is the femur? Answer: Thigh bone.
Question 5: Someone has dropped, clutching their throat choking... what should you do? Answer: Perform the Heimlich Maneuver.
Question 6: How many bones does an adult human have? Answer: 206.
Question 7: DRE is an examination where a well lubricated finger is placed where? Answer: Rectum.
Question 8: What is the normal core body temperature? Answer: 37.0 degrees Celsius.
Question 9: What does the term 'Soldiers disease' stand for? Answer: Morphine addiction.

It will take 5 days in each position before you can get a raise (you have to get the raise manually, so keep an eye on it). Which will make it take 35 days to achieve the rank of Brain Surgeon. Getting that, unlocks the ability to revive.

BUT, we’re not done yet! A typical revive costs 75 energy, and sells for between 1 Xanax (830K) and 1M. If you get into a good reviving faction, they will have the energy cost of revives reduced to 25, allowing you to do 3 times as many revives with the same amount of energy.

Revive Changes: *(I am still working on confirming everything in this revive change section, please PM me if you see anything that is wrong or needs to be added). With recent changes to the reviving system, every time someone is revived, the chance to revive successfully revive them goes down by a few percent (they kind of added a "revive cooldown" by doing this). Revive Skill was also introduced with these changes. With 1 revive skill: when you revive someone they will be at 1% of their maximum health, and with 90 skill, they will be at 90% of their maximum health. Revive skill ranges from 1 to 100. Your base success chance for doing revives starts at 90%, and increases by 1% for every 10 revive skill you have.

With every revive you do successfully, it will raise your revive skill experience a little bit (which will in turn eventually raise your revive skill). If you are building up your revive skill, don't let a "low success chance" revive scare you away from attempting to do it. With the new system: you gain more revive experience for lower success chance revives. I believe it increases your experience received at an equal rate compared to failure chance (IE: 100% chance gives regular revive experience, 90% chance gives +10% to that revives experience, 75% chance gives +25% to that revive experience, and so on). So it should equal out to about the same amount of revives to get to 100 skill factoring in failures for revives attempted at under 100% success chance. (Here: you could get lucky and have it be slightly less, or unlucky and have it take doing slightly more revives to get to 100 skill).

7: Gambling. This is something that I tend to stay away from for personal reasons. Few fortunes are made, and MANY are lost through gambling. Do it at your own risk. There are plenty of forums helping to explain it.
When I DO gamble, I do it with a set amount of money (I have x amount “to spare” so I’ll just use that, and NO more). Give yourself a limit on spending and once it’s gone, STOP. Or if you DO manage to win, stop once you have tripled your money. If you have a gabmling problem, please ask a Staff member to ban you from the Casino.

8: Forums. There are lots of different forums in the Fun and Games section where you can win money. Although this usually takes a bit of dedication and/or good timing. Check them out: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=forums&f=13&b=0&a=0

Before I get to the last way of making money that I will go into some detail on, there are many other ways of making money in Torn that I WON’T be going into detail on. Such as but not limited to: the Stock Market, finding items on the City map (they spawn once a day if you have been active within the past 24 hours [I have personally made over 1.6 billion this way, but I’ve been lucky]) and selling them, doing Crimes, Bank investments, winning competitions and selling the items or points you get from them (good luck), selling Company Trains (company owners only), buying and selling Companies or Factions, buying and selling Stocks, collecting Bounties, selling Bounty Reveals (company special), selling Spies (company special), selling information (being a traitor or spy can earn you some SERIOUS heat, be careful), or scamming (youuuu filthy, FILTHY scammers).

9: Mugging. This is definitely the way of making money that will earn you the most enemies and bounties, people do NOT like getting mugged... Not one bit. It can be VERY profitable though. For this: you will want good combat stats, with maxed Merits in Mugging.
Remember: you can’t attack someone who is in the hospital, so make sure they aren’t in the hospital before you set out to mug someone. Or if they are, make sure they can be revived. It can be very handy being able to revive people if you are going to be mugging for your earnings... However: it’s not too hard to find a reviver who will be willing to discreetly revive your targets for a small fee. You will need to be quick when mugging or you might miss the cash, and hit them while their wallet is empty. Here are a few different “types” of mugs.

Buy-mugs: Buy something valuable from someone, then mug them for all you can. You will only get a percentage back, but it can save a lot of money if you are buying high value items. It can make you LOTS of money if you turn around and sell those items... But you might get mugged just the same!

Trade Cancel: This is when you initiate a trade with someone, put your items in and then wait for them to put money in the trade. Then once their money is in the trade, you cancel it and quickly mug them.

Market Stocking: This one is when you look for weaker players selling high value items or points on the market. You watch the item to see when it sells, then mug the seller right away.

Cayman Islands Mugs: Wait in the Cayman Islands, and mug away as people fly to deposit or withdraw their money into or from their accounts.

Poker Mugs: Play poker and mug someone with a decent amount of cash as soon as they leave the table. Have a fast stable connection (and quick fingers) for this one.

Russian Roulette Mugs: Play Russian roulette and mug the winner (you won’t be making money if you lose, but you can recover SOME losses through mugging). Or get a friend who plays, then mug the opponent when your friend loses.

Protecting Money: Now that you know a few ways of making money, let’s talk about protecting it. There are many different ways of protecting your money from muggs. You COULD buy things (such as: items, points, stocks, or properties) and just re-sell them again when you need the cash, but doing this opens you up to potential buy mugs when you go to resell... And that kind of defeats the purpose. Here are a few of the ways I know of to protect your cash.

City Bank: This will lock your money away for at least a week, and you can’t add more to it once you make a deposit. Not the best option, but once the two weeks is up it has gained some interest and you have 24 hours to collect it before it’s dumped into your wallet.

Cayman Islands Bank: This one isn’t the safest. If you aren’t fast, there is a very high chance you will get mugged going to the Caymans (with a decent chance at getting mugged even if you ARE fast). However: you can store an unlimited amount of cash there, and it gains 0.05% interest every month on the lowest amount that was in the bank throughout that month.

Company Bank: Very safe, BUT you need to be the owner of the company to access the Company Bank. Companies have a chance to get hacked for up to 3% of their cash, but this can be negated with the SYS Stock Block.

Faction Bank: This one is also very safe. You will need to either be the owner of the faction, or have permission to access the bank. However: most factions will NOT give you permission to access their bank, as it typically contains lots of money. But: some factions have had scripts made (certain scripts are allowed by the rules) that let you deposit into the faction bank, and the script keeps track of your balance. Then you just ask one of the leaders (or bankers if they have appointed any) for some or all of your balance, and they send it to you when they get a chance. Not always the fastest for getting your money out, but it’s a quick and effective way to store cash. If a faction has their respect reduced to zero, their money is lost. Luckily, this is very rare and hard to do to an established faction in any quick manner.

Vault: This one is the best, but vaults can only hold so much. There are three properties (excluding special properties) that can be upgraded with Vaults: a Palace, a Castle, or a Private Island. There are four sizes of vaults, ranging from small to extra large. The smallest costs $20M and holds up to $100M, and the extra large costs $215M and holds up to $1B. If you have your own property, that’s great. If you rent with a spouse, you have to talk to them about sharing the vault (building trust is key).

Ghost Trades: This one is great for short term protection of an unlimited amount of money. Only do this with a friend you trust, because that person has to have been online within the past 6 hours. They can cancel it, sending your money back to your vulnerable wallet. I just title my trades “Ghost” so they won’t cancel it if they see it. Trades expire within 6 hours. Set up a trade with them and just dump your cash into it. Cancel the trade when you need the cash.

Ghost Races: A ghost race is great for protecting up to 10 million, if you have the ability to race. You need to purchase a Racing License from the Points Market for 50 Points, then just buy any car at the Docs and head to the Race Track (both from the city). When you are setting up your Ghost Race, make sure there is nothing that will identify you in the title of your race (like your name or something you say a lot), and no one will be able to see it is you who set up the race (they can’t use the race as a way to target you for a mug). Set the timer to 2,880, this will give you 48 hours before the money is sent back to your wallet. MAKE SURE to set a password no one else knows for the race, or you can become a mug target (as people will be able to join and see the other racers). Place the bet amount you want to protect in the bet section (again, up to 10M), and start the race. You can cancel the race at any time with no penalty, and get all your cash back immediately.

Donator Packs: A Donator Pack (DP) is a supply item that gives you "Donator Status" for 31 days. They typically cost just over 24M, and are worth every penny. They increase your maximum energy to 150 and give you 50 points right off the bat. They also increase your energy regeneration by 33% (by reducing the time from 5E every 15 minutes, to 5E every 10 minutes).

More on Traveling: There are a few different things to do in certain Countries.
Africa has Hunting. (Once you get to level 99 in hunting, you have gotten 50% of the experience it takes to get to level 100).
Switzerland has a Rehab facility (which can get VERY costly over time).
Cayman Islands has an Offshore Bank Account you can use.
China has a fortune teller which will allow you to see your experience progress towards the next level. (Level holders will only see 100%).

Outside Help: Certain other sites are great combined with Torn. Some Scripts (downloads that let you do stuff in Torn like see statistics, there are many different things that you can do with them which ARE allowed by the rules) are allowed by the rules. Double check the rules before you decide to try any, and make sure that script fits into what is allowed. Torn Tools and Tornstats (https://www.tornstats.com/) are two that are commonly used by the people of torn (many factions require an active Tornstats account). Torn Tools is a great extension available on GetHub or on the chrome extension store: (https://github.com/Mephiles/torntools_extension) (ttps://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/torn-tools/hjpaapdjcgbmeikfnahipphknonhlhib?hl=en). (R.I.P. Doctorn).

Just a tip I’ve found for piggy banks; you don’t have to smash them to know how much you’ve saved! You can see it by looking in your personal stats (the bar graph icon on your profile) and scrolling down.
Schusfuster [2639474]
In the sentence

"Using too many can lock you out of the end gym that has the best gains in the game, the SSL. " you are missing a noun after "too many". Drugs? Sports Drinks?

Also, the drug section seems to be assuming some non-obvious things about time usage and objectives.
Killik [2031870]
Thanks for that, fixed the first bit. What do you mean by "the drug section seems to be assuming some non-obvious things about time usage and objectives."? ...As they are "non-obvious" I seem to have overlooked them.
