Hello everyone! I keep hearing a lot of mentions about 'RESPO' (as some sort of major torn update), but searches of what exactly this is have yielded virtually nothing. Anyone able to help me out here?

Oh, so RESPO as in Responsive? As in interfaces change size according to device dimensions instead of being an unreadable mess on anything that's not a PC?

Yeah, that's generally the feel that I got too, but I guess my question is what exactly was included. The forum interface revamp? The alignment & colouring of the top left of the sidebar? And what other things?

RESPO or Responsive or whatever else it was called was a game engine and rework of the entire Torn CMS, Torn was also basically made Mobile friendly and was also made on par with other websites and the way web was headed in general.

I was there when it happened :)

day 1 was mixed signals, the game looked nice, the keyword being "looked" it was f**king horrible to play with all the lag. someone in my faction at the time told me it was going to be reverted i was just pleading in global to not revert.

a lot of players left the game tho including a few of my close friends and some RL friends because they didn't embrace the change.

the lag made the game horrible yes but it also made the game better, pre respo the game was a web design nightmare, after Respo it looked just like another important site (you can disguise this shit)

a few weeks pass and bugs issues forums open and the lag reduces then daddy ched buys a few servers updates some parts of legacy codes and then you reach this post.

In a way Torn is truly like a city. An unplanned one, that outgrew itself...

Coded by kids originally, the game was much less thought out than it is now, patched together by random code. Sure you can band aid and band aid, but eventually they recognized the need of a new framework. RESPO was a major change of the original coding of Torn.

It also implemented some new updates but the core reason was it made Torn have a different base framework of code, much as ORAN mentioned, the transition was not overly smooth.

Technically not lost, with Easter there was a link that brought me to the old torn forums, it was similar but different.. anyway it’s still there for people who want to nostalgically look things up. I just looked at my factions (my faction during Easter) old posts to see if Jimmy had any games that he used to have on there that could be revamped for now days and sadly didn’t.  I didn’t think to look in the other areas but now I’m slightly curious

Edit: very old post, googled something because I was trying to find out what respo meant exactly - after someone showed the torn review from forever ago today - thankfully this post was not necro’d but in case my friends see this in there threads and are like wth 🤦‍♀️
