Requirement:
- You've read this guide to know the overview of Torn. This guide to protect your money.
- You're a min-maxer and want efficient growth. If you're a casual player, just read this guide.
- You're not shy from chatting & reaching out to other players. In order to progress quickly in Torn, you need to let others know that you exist.
- If you're spending money to get a leg up, I'll have some pointers for paying players. These are marked with [PREMIUM] tag
On to the checklist:
Lvl 1 - 15: Chat and reach out. Estimated time: 3-5 days.
+ Overall Advice:
- Install TornTools if you're playing on PC. If you're on Android, get TornPDA or Yandex or Kiwi Browsers so you can install Torntools on. You're using iOS? well, there's your problem.
- If someone actively reaches out to you, they're planning to get something from you. Be skeptical.
- At this phase, long term money protection (1week+) is bank investment or piggy bank (onetime use). Medium-term money protection is faction vault (1 day+ ). Short-term money protection (6 hours or below) is ghost trades with someone you trust. You can make a trade with me and just put in "Ghost" as description if you're new.
- Point is also good money storage if you're selling below 250 in total point. Once you exceed this amount, muggers will be looking to buy up all the point you're listing and mug you. 1000 point is a surefire mug.
- Your main goal in this phase is to train up to a decent amount of stat and cycle through these targets (and these, these and these) to level up to lvl 15 quickly. I'd recommend go fully ham on training first until you're like 2-3k stats then start cycling through the target from the top level.
- [PREMIUM] If you haven't had the Subscriber icon on your account already, are you sure you're spending money?
+ Finance:
- Make money daily by buying 100 items of City shops in Torn, TornTool would give indicators on how much profit you can make for each item so just circle around the shops and buy whichever more profitable. Teddy, Sheep and Kitten plushies in Bit&Bobs being the most consistent.
- Make money by helping others to advertise in Trade Chat or New Player Chat (usually you can get 600k-1m or 1 xanax for 1 hour, which is huge for beginners). If you don't have someone hiring you yet, advertise that fact in the Trade Chat.
- Make money by checking forum for giveaway thread or dive into the hellhole called Global Chat and scan for anyone quitting the game so you can ask for their stuffs.
- Make money by doing NPC attacks. You could hit a jackpot and get a big boost in networth early on if you manage to loot some items.
- Make money by selling losses in Attacking Forum (300-350k a pop). Quick, fast, easy cash but will slow you down in the long run. You should only sell to save up for a PI Rental (15m) and Donator Pack then stop doing it altogether.
- Make money by doing weird stuffs, catfishing simps, who knows. Change your gender to female, upload an anime waifu or cute girl as your profile pic, acting all cutesy in Torn Discord and post in the Newspaper or something. "Makes others hard and they'll make your life easier" - Sun Tzu or something.
- Participate in Community events in forum.
- Refer to this guide for a collection of possible ways to make money
- [PREMIUM] Buy donator packs and sell them to specific traders (like me) for a higher price and mug-free experience. You can also sell Donator Pack directly to the systems via Pawn Shop in the City for 22.6m each. Do not sell them for less.
+ Merit:
Merit is one of the aspect that is easily neglected but oh so important because the perks they bring are enormous. Try to get all the easy one off the list so you can get a competitive edge over others
- What should I spend on: Max Education time reduction first at this phase.
- Work on some merits that are easy but tedious to get. Use this spreadsheet to plan out your merit hunting journey
+ Property:
- Save money (at least 15m for a 30-day rental of a 3725 happiness PI)
- Find a spouse ASAP so you can get married, this will help reduce rental expense as well as give you several merits. Go to the Properties forum for this.
- Maybe rent a cheap Palace or Ranch for 7 days so you can have an increased max happiness for training. Early stat training relies heavily on happy.
- [PREMIUM] Go ham and rent a maxed happiness PI, who cares. Buy yourself a spouse by telling them that you'll take care of rent while you're at it.
+ Drug:
- Take cannabis whenever you can, unless you can afford more expensive drugs. Take up to 50 for the merit then jump to another drug.
+ Crime:
- Pretty weak early game. However, it will be one of the main sources of income for you at late game (imagine generating 60-100m weekly just from crime alone via Faction's Political Assassination).
Crime 1.0: Not recommended since Crime 2.0 is objectively better but hey, the option is still there.
- Crime 1.0 is very lacking in diversity (only 2-3 good paths, the rest are beginner's trap). It's strongly advised that you don't experiment because failure is very punishing. Let others test it on themselves.
- Success chance for each crime is dependent on your total crime experience (the telltale sign being your natural nerve bar which starts at 10 max nerve and can reach up to 60 in Crime 1.0).
- Drink beers whenever you can and do safe crime so you can get your nerve bar up.
- Do 30x 2-nerve crimes. Then do 140-150x 3-nerve crime (last option). If you are jailed, do 20x more crime per jailed instances
- Do 4-nerve crime -> Steal Jacket UNTIL 5K Thief crime done (there'll be a merit so you'll know). Don't even try to be creative with this one. Just do it.
- One jailed result (red outcome) will reduce your crime experience by 20x of the same crime (you'll need to do another 20x successes to get back to where you were). Jacket stealing will only give you blue result (no crime exp loss) when failed UNLESS YOU ATTEMPT IT TOO EARLY. Don't skip crimes then come crying that you failed a safe crime.
- Stealing from candy shop is the biggest beginner's trap. DO NOT DO THIS CRIME. You'll get jailed a lot and completely destroy your crime experience progress . IF YOU NEED MONEY, SELL LOSSES OR ADVERTISE.
Crime 2.0:
- Success chance for each crime is tracked separately so theoretically you can jump to high nerve crime as a beginner and still success. However, it is strongly recommended to do low-nerve crimes first to get those beginner crime merit quickly. It’s a game, enjoy the journey.
- Even though I appreciate Emforus' dedication to write up Crime 2.0's guide, this one from Adobi is the best for my attention span
+ Stat Training:
- If you're not drinking beer to boost your crime experience, eat lollipop until you max your booster cooldown and pop an ecstasy, then train. Consider doing Choco jump if you can afford it. Be sure to time the booster cooldown and drug cooldown well.
- Do this until 2-3k stat then start trying to level up.
- [PREMIUM] Do happy jump in a 10* Adult Novelty. Read the Job section below for how to get in one.
- Choose a defensive stat to whore.
- Generally def is a better long-term stat for whoring but if you really want to push for min-max stat growth, read this.
+Education:
- Take the (1) Intro to Biochemistry -> Intravenous Therapy Education Course, then (2) Introduction to Computing Course
+ Job:
- Refer to this guide *shameless plug*. tl;dr: at the beginning, the absolute best company for your shitty stat is a 7* Adult Novelty or 7* Sweet Shop. You'll be taxed to hell and back due to how shitty your stat are. Stick with them for a while, buy trains occasionally if you can afford it, and browse around later.
- Candle shop, Flower shop & Toy shop are also good beginner alternatives.
- Music Store is a very good alternative to join if you prefer to go the cheap training path. Basically instead of splurging the entire networth for happy jumps, you join a music store and try to unlock all the good gyms due to the passive at 3* (30% more gym experience). Just 3 xanax, 1 refill and nat e until you unlock the final gym (George gym at around 50 days) then do happy jumps for the stat that you're lacking.
- [PREMIUM] Reach out to 10* Adult Novelty, tell them you're paying for trains (400-500k/train, about 70 trains/week which is 35m/week). Directors looking to sell train will scoop you up regardless of your stat.
+ Faction:
- Get in a faction with at least 8% gym gain, +9 travel items.
- If you want to join a bigger faction, actively participate in chains. Rack up those number of hits per chain. Imagine a faction as a company, a chain as a small project and the number of hits you contribute is a work achievement. Big factions (companies) will ask for chain report (prior experiences) to see whether you're active and willing to contribute or is just a leech so no two ways about it.
- [PREMIUM]: Ask to join factions with Voracity perks (older factions with + booster cooldown duration so you can do better happy jump, even 99k happy jump). Ask them what kind of requirement do they want from you in order to make an exception for you. The vast majority of the case they would make an exception ONLY IF you can show that you're very, very active and willing to contribute to the faction.
Things to remember:
- Always have your boosters & drug cooldown ticking down. Do not have them at 0 for a long time, especially drug cooldown. there's one merit for 50 of each drug taken and the merit for the more useless drugs (PCP, Speed, Cannabis, etc.) should be done as early as possible so you can take the other drugs later on without having to waste time chasing those later.
- Stat requirement is flexible. Companies and factions make exception ALL the time. Just reach out and chat. What do you have to lose?
- You can get 2-6m/week working at the City Grocer job already (25 job point for a can, 5 job point per day at highest position). Any job offering less than that is not worth your time.
- Rotational train translates to around 100-400k worth per day depending on your company's star. Just estimate one train as 400k and how frequent you're going to get your train (each star mean one more train per day for a company)
- Jobs in Torn is all about tradeoffs. You might be willing to work for no money for the perks. Just be very cautious to not sell yourself short.
Lvl 15+, 4k-150m battlestat: Choose a path (or several)
- Immediately as you hit lvl 15 or maybe even earlier, rent a 3725 happiness PI for 30 day (500k/day), totally 15m in rental fee. then hire a pilot & fly for more income.
- At this point, there are several playstyles for you to choose, some make more sense than others. The path dictates the merit investment & education focus.
- Sport Science Bachelor should always be completed first before taking playstyle-specific education courses.
- After you get all 50 drug taken for all drugs, daily 3 xanax, 1 refill and natural energy is the minimum. DO NOT skim on this minimum to save for Happy Jumps. Either you can afford happy jumps or you can't. Don't halt your natural progression for happy jumps. More explanation here (last paragraph).
Crime 1.0: Remember to take General Education -> Driving License when you've at around 3.5k jacket stolen or 25 nnb to prepare for Arson. Continue to do the jacket stealing until 5k, trash all 5k jacket for a merit then jump directly to Arson -> Warehouse, skip all the other crimes. You can come back to them later.
Crime 2.0: Just continue to follow Adobi's guide.
- Always have Donator or Subscriber status on your account.
- 25e is worth at least 1.4m or the equivalent of a 15-e can. If you are not spending it on training, keep this value in mind and don't sell it short. In other words, stop selling losses.
- A good path to follow if you are very active and want fast progress is Flyer until you have 50m (no bank merit) -> Market Stalker & Director hybrid until you get all the flight merit -> Day Trader / Mugger
- Buy EVL stock block immediately whenever you can (around 34-35m a block). Good stock for happy jumping (1k happy per week when you choose). After that, WSU (you can focus on WSU first if you want) and MCS (extra e per week is always good).
- If you're playing passively, invest base on this sheet.
Flying: Early game in Torn for some, the entire Torn experience for others
- Passive, less intensive playstyle. Suitable for people with a life. Very inefficient.
- Again, if you're min-maxing and very active, this is not recommended but I still leave it in as possible options. Torn is a marathon and most people are not as active nor consistent as they think.
- Max bank interest rate first. Then, if you indeed have a life outside of Torn, put some merit in increasing your max nerve at this phase (you have a free merit reset anyway) so you can fly medium to long flight without sacrificing too much natural nerve with your measly 15-25 nnb. After that, the merit goes to the battlestat that you're whoring.
- A PI Rental, Large Suitcase and Donator Status is the short-term priority. Always keep the PI Rental and Donator Status up.
- Flowershop, Toy shop are jobs which flyers can consider joining (increase number of plushie or flower carried). Flowershop is much better with the addiction reduction perk.
- If you're running xanax, Cruise Line is worth considering. However, be very careful and never carry cash when you fly, put in faction vault and ask for a faction banker to send you the money or do ghost trade & ask your friend to cancel trade as you land to protect your cash from muggers.
- Your training goal is to keep up with the standard 3 xanax, 1 refill per day for training as well as happy jumping occasionally. Your battlestat should double itself each month at this phase.
- This is a pretty helpful resource for flier
+ Dedicated Flyer: You recognize that regardless of how much effort you put in, you would never reach the stat nor net worth of any Hall of Fame players until they stop playing. Even so, it'd take years for you to reach that point, and it's more likely for you to give up on Torn before reaching that point. You are not attached nor have any emotional influence with your stat and fake currency in Torn. You have a successful life outside of Torn so you take it easy and play at your leisure. Torn is just another menial task you throw in to distract yourself from your current work routine. Early on, you fly close (Mexico, Cayman, Canada) to not waste your natural nerve and e regen while working on the merit for 50 visits at each country. Anyone telling you that you shouldn't fly Cayman early due to muggers, tell them they're full of shit. The best time to fly to Cayman is when you're at low level, low networth and not worth mugging. At night, you fly to South Africa and spend the e in the morning hunting for some early merits. You'll occasionally mess up by using e to hunt while stacking for a happy jump. After you get your 30nnb, you can fly to Argentina, UK indefinitely due to how safe these destinations are which stocks nearly always available. Hawaii is your nightmare with only Orchid to buy and frequently out of stock. Japan, China and UAE are destination which should be visited 50 times then crossed out of the checklist until you have the WLT block, otherwise you'd waste natural e by flying there. Most people who fly to these destination will also try to mug you to not waste their e so only fly there when you know there'll be stocks available when you land. Go here for reference
+ Director: Read the wiki and this guide first before you do anything related to this path. A little bit more effort than the normal flyer. Beside the flying, you also take up Business Administration courses and complete that bachelor ASAP. Only after completing some crucial education courses, you buy a company up, make sure to haggle so you won't get rip off because you always will. Alternatively you can build a company from the ground up, find newbie who don't know any better and don't bother reading the forum to join and work for you until they're bored with Torn and quit, rinse and repeat until the company reach 3* or 4* then you try to rip off another newbie director by selling the company to them at 150m or 200m while promising high returns. This is called "company flipping" and it can net you a lot of money if you can rip people off properly. The company have no workstat requirement for director so you can choose whatever industry that interests you. You only need the necessary education courses and relevant stock blocks to be successful. You can also put your skill to manage a company owned by another for a stable income. Most directors will choose to manage an Adult Novelty or Sweet Shop and tax the hell out of their employee while selling trains on the side for 35-70m per week. Who knows, you could trade on the side too!
If you want to get started, this guide is helpful with the nitty gritty of directing a company.
+ Loss Seller: ignoring the countless advices from others telling you not to commit long term, the money is too good for you to quit. You have the title "Loser" stuck to you since day 2 in Torn and it's not going to come off anytime soon. Your routine involve flying and clocking in from 16-40 losses a day when you're in Torn to rack up the money. Your rationale is that you'd be able to not only afford 2 happy jump per week, but also put in savings toward your 2b bank investment. Not realizing while you're stuck happy jumping in middleweight gyms for 60-80k stat per week, others have had their specialty gyms unlocked before they hit their 1 year anniversary in Torn with more than 100m stat total.
Let me put it this way: If you already have a PI Rental, a Large Suitcase, Donator status and some money in the bank (50m-100m) and you're still selling losses to fund your training with the dream of being competitive stat-wise, I've seen smarter ideas from a kindergartner. And this is coming from someone who did exactly that (selling losses) for 3 months.
+ Reviver: Maybe you don't want to attack others and just want to play support, in a crime game. You found out that you can do "Revive" if you reach the final step of the Medical city job, requiring a minimum Intelligence of 9378, Endurance of 3673 and Manual of 2316 in order to fast-track from the beginning. You quickly get your job stat up to the minimum and get it. You then immediately attack an inactive then revive him for a merit, then attack him again for another merit. That is when you realize "hey, it costs 75e for a revive? How could those healer offer revive for 1m or 1 xanax?" Well, there's a faction perk that helps reduces the e required to 25. That's when you have to decide whether to drop the dream for more gains or jump ship to a reviver faction which has much shittier perks for training than your current one, completely going against your progress. But it's fine for you, you just want to have fun, heal others while making money on the side. Well, ya see, that's the thing. There's no making money as a healer. You're competing with not only your own faction mates and other healer faction but you have to fight again THEM, those Satan spawns, Freevivers. Because of several merits and revive skill training for reviving others, these creatures, chasing those merits and skill, are willing to provide revive willy nilly for free. FOR FREE I TELL YOU. What kind of Satanist ritual is this? Some of your faction mate will occasionally turns into them when there's a holiday going on too! They made others think that they can simply ask for a freevive in the chat and they'd receive it without paying, can you believe that? Even worse, sometimes you'd just get a revive scammer who said that they'll pay but then go on their merry way leaving you behind with a pool of salt. That's when this list come in handy. The number of revivers are so many that if you want to play competitively as a reviver (why would you tho?) you'd have to spam trade chat and stalk hospital and ping up others like no tomorrow.
Trading: Torn is now your second life.
- This is a good start. Then, after you get your feet wet with some small trades, learn from the best (would've link any trading guide Oran written here cuz I like to kiss his ass but alas he didn't write any).
- You don't put merit into bank interest rate. Instead, it should be prioritized on the battlestat you're whoring so you can, at the very least, surprise the mugger at account age close to yours.
- You focus solely on getting your History Bachelor degree (after the Sport Science) in order to quickly turn plushies & flower to point and cold hard cash. Even without the History Bachelor degree, you can still make plushie & flower set & sell to traders with museum access for a decent profit.
- This website becomes peanut butter to your Torn jelly: https://yata.yt/bazaar/
- You need a personal vault (I still advise against buying a PI, maybe buy palace with an extra large vault and switch to it within 15 mins so you don't waste happy. Company, faction vault are also good alternative options), or a bunch of trusted friends who you can make ghost trades with. I personally use the stock market as my bank when I go to sleep. Buy a stock that is low in price and if you're lucky you can earn some profit when you wake up.
- You spend most of the time in Torn's hospital to prevent getting buymugged. Popular method to get yourself in include playing russian roulette to lose, bountying your own ass and drinking the wrong bloody juice. Or just fly away if you're not actively trading.
- Make sure to disable revives. That hospital door is the only thing stopping those muggers from touching your shit. Why would you let them get you out then immediately send you back it with a 10% lighter wallet?
- Again, make sure to disable revives. Go to Setting -> General Setting -> No one can revive.
- Once you're richer, you also use SED for a consistent, controllable 5-hour hosp.
- If you’re new or a cheapskate even with 10b networth, you can always ask your friend or faction mate to bounty you with 300k-1m, wait on your bazaar tab till you see your health getting reduce and quickly open bazaar. Depending on the time of the year, might not be very effective. And if you want to have it claimed quickly, put a high amount. If you put 50k-100k then expect to open bazaar in 3 days or never.
- Unless you have a f**ked up sleeping schedule (or willing to have one for Torn, by that point you should first ask yourself what the hell are you doing with your life), don't open your bazaar overnight. A SED can only give you 5h hosp. Well, some people do offer hosping service that can get you hosped up to 8h30 but it usually cost 4-6m and the cost could be very prohibitive if you're starting new.
- "Wait, why don't I just put 2 high value bounties on myself and have a good night sleep?" Oh you sweet summer child, you think muggers can't reach you during the brief moment when you're out of hosp? Muggers stalk hospital for people like you ALL. THE. TIME. And believe me, they're much, much quicker than people who are willing to hosp you. A high value bounty with an open bazaar is like hanging a "mug me" sign for passerby even.
- Clothing company becomes so sexy in your eye with that sweet, sweet 75% mug reduction.
- You hate muggers, but you love them when they sell you their stuffs and willing to take your shitty price, but you hate them when they mug you, but you love them when they mug your enemy, but you hate them for making your life hard, but you love them for making it easier by getting people to trade with you after they got buymugged. Point is, muggers are your frenemy. Without them, no one will trade with you since they would just sell their stuffs on their own. If you get mugged, it's on you for being careless. Don't antagonize them or you're going to lose out on potential customers.
- Generally, this is a relatively risk-free and high profit route (5-15% profit on a good day, up to maybe 4b, then you should look into stocks or other capital intensive investments) but also require more time commitment than others
- You are a danger to yourself with this playstyle. one single typo, one missing number in the price of xanax, donator pack (or a Stat Enhancer) could potentially wipe out your entire net worth. Be very careful when setting up the price. Statistically speaking you can lose more by yourself making mistakes than by others mugging you.
- Do not have any points or property on the market when you fly, your bazaar margin could cover the mug but points & property have little to no margin to cover those losses. Pro muggers do team mug all the time. Mugging doesn't care about distance.
+ Day Trader (no flying): The route for people with obnoxious holier-than-thou attitude and think that mugging is beneath them because they have a superior sense of morality. In reality they are just socially inept and don't want to get hate messages from crybaby mug victims so they choose to trade instead. Exhibit A *point to self*. All trade and no mug makes Jack a dull boy, or so they say.
Need a lot of time commitment and an unhealthy obsession of imagining fake currency being rolled into your wallet when you complete every single transaction. This obsession makes you constantly stare blankly into the screen, watching your net worth increasing while spamming in trade chat, find new customer, pinch every single dollar of profit you can get from each transaction, f**k up your sleep schedule and set alarm to wake up before you get out of hospital while keeping you happy so you can do it all over again the next day. Point is, the commitment for this playstyle might cause burnout if not managed well. The upside? Once you get yourself established and a little bit well-known, you can sit back and let the word of mouth bring new customer in and you don't have to work as hard afterward.
Regarding the tip: since you're much more active than others, regardless of the market, you would always be able to turn a profit by quickly sell what you bought from others at a safe margin. Also, racing merit is a child's play to you since you're stuck in Torn forever to make trades except for rehab. Your reputation is everything when you're day trading. Keep your record clean, don't even try to mug inactive on the side or you could lose on potential trades. One proven mug will destroy your credibility.
Remember: You're not a Market Stalker, you're a Day Trader. Cash is king, especially at the beginning. You can't afford to buy up large amount of expensive goods and hold onto them until 2-3 months later like the big boys. You need to keep your inventory constantly exchange hand. Less profit per transaction, sure, but more profit per day because you can turn that cash into another transaction.
+ Market Stalker (half flyer, half trader): imagine high value, volatile items as the bank. instead of investing into the bank, you spend the time in Torn between flights to stalk the market, scoop up sweet deal or buy up items with an upward trend, put them on your bazaar for a much higher margin and fly out and wait for the cash to come in. Viable path until your bazaar value becomes too large and you get targeted for oversea and return mugs.
Mugging [PREMIUM]:
- Preferred route of paying players. The main requirements are high battle stat, a strong internet connection, close proximity to Torn's server and the animalistic desire of showing off how big one's dick is.
- Until you get at least 20m+ battlestat to reliably mug other newbie for a worthwhile amount, you should not even consider this as the potential mug amount is not worth it. If you're not paying real money to boost yourself, most likely you'll fly or trade to earn enough for training and switch to this later.
- "It's just a game, bro" is your go-to justification. Just like "it's just a prank, bro" for those IRL pranksters, everyone loves em.
- Your account's distinguishing features are a high enemy count and how frequently it got bountied.
- Mugging merit? Maxed. Battlestat? Maxed. Crit chance? Maxed. Stealth? Maxed. In that specific order.
- Pro Muggers tends to be dex whore with a strong emphasis on Str, you don't want to get hit and get your stealth revealed and you sure as hell want to one-shot your victim so they can't bank the money in time.
- Education? All the ones for warring & attacking.
- Job? Pay for some more trains and get your ass into a 10* Farm so you can get the OP 7 energy/1 job point perk. Be a monster! If you're ultra rich, join a 10* restaurant and chug 16x 30-e-can daily for maximum energy per day.
- Not a paying player? Any job which increase gym gain is a must (Strip clubs, Fitness Center, etc.)
- Good Muggers need to play on a PC with several tabs open to wait for the prey. Popular tabs include high value poker tables, russian roulette players, traders' bazaar, profiles and point markets. Most HoF factions or mugging friendly factions will have discord script to track potential mugging targets for your perusal.
- Mugging inactives are like doing "Search for cash" crimes. Sometimes you can get one cashcow out of 50-100 broke inactives that you can milk for 3 days at the cost of thousands of energy.
- Those who mug lottery winners thinking that they received the prizes in cash are worse than those who mug inactives.
- A Mug less than 500k is like selling losses. A mug less than 1m is like selling revives. Only a mug higher than 2m (or one 20e can) is considered worthwhile. Why higher than 2m? To offset the countless $0 mug fails you'll eventually litter across your path
- There is no classification for mugging. if opportunity arises, being slow make you a loser. Buymugger, trademugger (generally frowned upon), point market mugger, bazaar stalk mugger, casino mugger, all just different names for one single playstyle.
Other aspects:
- City Job: At some point during this phase, you'll have to jump out and get the 3 passive from the 3 city jobs: Medical (revive), Education (10% edu duration reduction), Law (10% increased crime rate). Go here for the minimum stat required
- START BUSTING LOW LVL NEWBIE FROM JAIL. Bust is a very long and tedious aspect but there's 11 merits associated with it and it help you get much better CE than doing crime when you success. It is also time-gated (each successful bust will reduce bust success rate for subsequent bust, decay within 72 hours) so the sooner you start, the better. At 25-30 nnb, you can target to bust 1-2 low lvl accounts (15 or below) every 8 hours. TornTools is crucial for effective and quick busting. Without TornTools, you won't even see the newbie getting jailed, let alone clicking to bust them. Read this guide for more info.
- Training milestones to remember is happy jumping till 400k stat (or 700k stat in a 10* AN) then just 3 xanax 1 refill and natural e forever. However, DO NOT neglect taking 3 xan 1 refill to save for happy jumps.
- When you reach 50m or more battle stat, time to ask around for a better faction to join (3m+ respect) so you can continue to fasttrack your progress.
- Ranked War: Some active factions have a strong focus on ranked warring. They rack up huge dough from weapon & armor caches so the pay per war hit is pretty nice if you can be very active during weekends.
- Read Andyman's thread for other hidden aspects of Torn. I can't cram them all into this thread but the insights he gave are very valuable.
1b+ battle-stat: What now?
- Huh, you're still here, what a degenerate. Well, guess you're that into Torn. Join the club.
- At this point, I doubt you even read guides anymore. But if you're still lurking around, I guess you're interested in the following questions: "Should I buy a ranked war loadout? and which should I start first?" So... dun dun dun:
Warring N' Shit:
- I would recommend you read this but I know you're sick of reading so below are the knowledge nuggets fresh from my ass:
- Buy armor first. Reason: your faction armory. If you have 1b stat, most likely you're already in some of the big faction with loaded armory. They rarely have armor set but they are absolutely loaded with ranked warring weapon.
Armor:
- All RW armor is a direct upgrade from your standard Combat + Moto Helm set.
- In terms of affordability, Dune and Riot are the cheapest. However, Dune Helmet is shit so if you're just scrapping by, putting around 800m down for one set of Riot for mission targets (since they all ran out of ammo and will only counterattack with melee) would be recommended since it's a pretty substantial upgrade. Assault sets for general usage for most.
- If you can afford the other sets, why are you reading my guide? Just get yourself an EOD and start swinging your dick around for the island or something.
Weapon:
- general guideline: stat is still king. Repeat after me: Stat is king. Don't switch your arma-lite for a yellow ak-47 or, god forbits, a yellow MP-40.
- Also, pay attention to your existing weapon merit. If you're already invested in one type of weapon and don't want to reset your merit, just stick with the same type.
These are the typical use cases:
+ I just want to do some minor improvement to my damage output:
- What are you? rich or something? Unless you can splurge like 2b-10b+ to a single piece of weapon, just spend those money to training stat. Most yellow (or dare I say even orange) weapon ain't that good at increasing damage even when you're at like 5b battlestat.
- Okay, fine, training is too boring. Look at your current weapon's Damage and Accuracy stat, do some ball-park calculation. At least the weapon you're buying should have slightly better stat or maybe you can afford a lower stat type of weapon and bank on the effect to push the output higher. Don't buy weapons blindly otherwise you're spending money to downgrade yourself. Elon Musk buying Twitter is a better investment than whatever the heck you're doing chasing those fancy effects.
- Damage-increasing weapons are mostly used as a defensive loadout, but there are much better alternatives for defensive loadout in the Utility category.
- If you're doing the attacking, maybe buy just one to soften your target before you use the utility weapons below
- this guide have some good write-up on damaging weapons
+ I want some utility:
- Now you're talking sense, good job. Here's a candy. Think about what makes you press that attack button. Unless it's to stroke your ego and tell the other party that you have a bigger dick and surpassed them in some sense, there's little to gain from increasing damage without a return (like mugging or respect-farming, for example).
- Warlord for general territory or ranked warring. This is the main purpose for you pressing that attack button anyway. Your faction should already have plenty so no need to buy. 15% minimum increase of respect gain, should always have that type of weapon in a loadout.
- Revitalize for mission/chain targets so you can save e. 10-24% chance to restore attacking e. Great for Halloween, Valentine, you name it. can be used for ranked warring as well but the effect is not as good as Warlord comparatively (unless you're getting paid per hit then Revit gives you more income I guess). Usually you'll need to buy one for yourself. Aim for 11% or better.
- Plunder for mugger, minimum increase is 20% but don't just buy any plunder weapon for the effect. If it takes you one or more hits to defeat an opponent, it's shit since the goal is to increase your mug amount, not increase your victim's chance to bank their money. Stick with the reliable macana, dbk or some japanese weapons if you can reset your merit to slashing weapons. A plunder + parry weapon is the wet dream of muggers.
- Cattle prod with 75-90% stun chance gets an honorable mention as a defensive melee weapon. It is not a ranked war weapon per se but its effect annoys people so much (and it's extremely cheap/cost effective). Buy a high accuracy, 80%+ stun chance cattle prod, equip Smoke/tyro if you're a dex whore or tear gas/Sero if you're a def whore, set your attack pattern to 0 primary, 0 secondary, 1 melee, 100 temp then watch people around your stat statemating you unknowingly. Cattle prod won't help you beat your attacker but help stalling them long enough for your factionmate to come to your rescue or for you to bank your money if you're getting mugged. If you are a buff def whore, join a 5* gas station as well and just watch yourself getting healed to full every time. Won't work if your opponent have a good Parry melee weapon but at that point you're helplessly outstatted to do shit anyway.
- Alternative is a Parry weapon to counter the cattle prod or to use as a defensive loadout for trader or high-stake casino enjoyer, 50% minimum chance to block enemy's melee attack (hey, all plunder weapons are melee, interesting). This could give you like 2-3 seconds more to react to getting shit on.
- Bloodlust melee weapon is for top-end war machines who's not in a Gas Station, or is in one and just really want to rub it in.
- Stricken for those selling 7h+ hosp services / general territory warring (30-85% increase). Usually expensive AF and your faction might have one or two anyway.
- Execute/Motivate is good at Red, shit at Yellow, 'nuff said. That 15% minimum execute chance is much, much lower than you think. You're more likely to oneshot your opponent from 15% HP using your other weapon anyway. For Motivate, think about when you're looking for the extra stat and how often it can proc. The majority of the case is that you're in a ranked war, trying to med out and get yourself motivated but then you get hosped by another opponent faction member, poof, de-motivated. Most motivate weapon have low stat so you're better off going with a Warlord or Damage-increase weapons instead. Well, if you still want to try them out, choose something with high accuracy since you're not looking for a high damage weapon to proc the effect are you?
+ I want to get my weapon exp merit (yeah, it's stupid but I've heard of it):
- Just grab from your faction armory and go to town on NPC or buy losses, no need to buy shit.
