So I was looking at the statistics in the city hall, and noticed this massive drop in user activity around 2010.

Does anyone know what happened? It hasn't recovered back to the user activity it had in 2009 even after 11 years

Well you are right ive been searching for like an hour to try to find out what happened so i came up with 2 theories

1st. a lot of players got banned

you can check this here but it seems i cant really sort these results out in order to understand completely if something like this happened

2nd. Players spent less time in the game

Bare in mind that the graph you are looking shows the player activity if you check the total users graph you can see that torn has gained a lot of new users since 2010 so this makes me belive that actually new players found out about the game but they spent less time because maybe the got bored or reached a point that there wasnt something more to achive so they could go some days without playing(or completely quit) plus the new non-text based games that came out during 2010 and after. Nowadays textbased games dont really attract a lot of people and most of new players go inactive after some days of playing, this this is due to the complexity of the game in the first days

Maybe nothing of the above happened i guess we will never know

Maybe because it was facebook games era. Zynga ruled that year with mafia wars, hold'em poker and farmville.
Not long after that smartphone games rule like clash of clans etc.
Idt just torn. All text base games lost big chunk of their player base that year.

Did those numbers include people who played Facebook Torn? If so, that’s probably why they’re so inflated…

My best guess at least.

Most people join torn and not even half of them continue play after some days, people are not intrested in text based games anymore and also a lot of them dont understand the game . Torn is a game that you need at least a month to understand completely first days you are literally dont know what you are doing and most of the players dont even get the chance to discover it as they get bored very guickly and quit. Its weird how in 2010 with around 250k total users torn had more activity than now with 1.3mil total users or smth

I you could understand Torn completly after a month, then my hat's of for you..

When Andyman, Proxima and the other number/stat crushers make one of their two miles long and lots of graps post i still feel like i'm miles away from understanding anything.. ?

I meant how generally things work in torn, not to that extent like Andyman and proxima

Every player needs some time to understand things like chains, how gym training works, or even explore and find out the possibilities to how a person can develop as a player here etc.
