According to the newspaper:
"If JFK and Relentless are fighting over at ABC, and JFK and WarBirds are fighting at DEF, WarBirds members could attack JFK's members who are on the wall at ABC, and it would not be counted as an outside hit."

We (TD) are fighting over AVB from HT-Original (HT-O). Reign of Confusion (RoC) are fighting over VVB held by HT-Original. TD also fighting over WVB with RoC .
Given the explanation above all, 3 factions should be able to make hits on each of the wall and it not count as outside hits.
However this isn't the case, members of RoC hit members of TD off the AVB wall but they didn't incure any med cooldown, thus seemingly being classed as outside hits.
Given what I understand from the newspaper article this shouldn't be the case.

You (TD) are not directly connected by any wars with RoC. So any hits between you both would certainly be outside hits. Perhaps there was a mistake in the newspaper article?

I am just trying to understand because based on the newspaper, if we have a wall up with both Faction A and Faction B, and I am sitting on wall A, if I am hit off that wall by Faction B, that should be considered an 'inside hit' and I would incur med cd to get out of hosp, no? Because we are at war with both factions. However we have experienced that exact scenario and it is not the case. Faction B can hit me off Wall A, and although we are at war with Faction B, because i am not sitting on Wall B, it is being considered an outside hit

I encourage you, Ched, to really think about the implications of these changes and roll back this update (even if it’s just temporarily and just for the outside hits part of the update).

This is a massive hole which I think you hadn’t intended.

You’ve publicly stated that you think alliances like Animal Kingdom - where small factions band together to fight the big guys - are great and you want to see more of them.

But by doing this, any chance of an alliance of factions fighting against the big guys is now dead. Any chance of factions trying to work together for a common goal is also dead.

As a bit of an update we have tested a few different scenarios. The below is a diagram of our current war situation. 4 Factions and 4 walls. [image: i.imgur.com]
Here are the tests that we have run and their outcomes:

Faction 1 attacks TD on Wall A = Inside hit, Med CD applied
Faction 1 attacks TD on Wall B = Outside hit, Med CD not applied
Facton 3 attacks TD on Wall B = Outside hit, Med CD not applied
TD attacks Faction 3 on Wall D = Outside hit, Med CD not applied
Faction 2 attacks TD on Wall C = Outside hit, Med CD not applied
Faction 2 attacks TD on Wall B = Inside hit, Med CD applied
TD on wall A attacks TD on wall B = Outside hit, Med CD not applied
TD on wal A attacks TD on wall A = Outside hit, Med CD not applied

From my understanding all of the above tests should have been inside hits with our current war arrangement.

Sure if you want to give me some implications I'd be very happy to take a look. It's very clear that the public want to avoid outside hitters interfering with territory wars and ranked wars, if they didn't it'd make my life so much easier for sure. I'd love to keep everything a free-for-all as I think that is what Torn is about, but the community and committee have spoken very clearly.

Added outside attacker mitigation for territory wars and future ranked wars

In order to counter anti-competitive behaviour, we've implemented a system to mitigate the impact of outside hits during wars. This allows a faction member to use medical items without receiving any cooldown until they leave the hospital. This happens in two situations...

- A faction member defending or assaulting a territory is removed by an outside attacker
- A faction member in future ranked wars is defeated by an outside attacker

TD hitting wall A, med cd
Faction 1 hitting wall A, med cd
TD hitting wall B, med cd
Faction 2 hitting wall B, med cd
Faction 2 hitting wall D, med cd
Faction 3 hitting wall D, med cd
Faction 3 hitting wall C, med cd
TD hitting wall C, med cd

was pretty clear

You (TD) are now assaulting WVB (Roc), so you have a direct war between you two. If either of you knock each other off of the wall, you will NOT be outside hitters (you WILL incur cooldown)

Have I missed something?

I think the confusion lies with the fact they (TD) believed if they had a war with (Roc) they should be able to hit ANY wall (Roc) are involved in, not just the specifically (TD-Roc) wall, and have it be an "inside" hit. I think the newspaper got this bit wrong.

But shouldn't it work like this where regardless of which wall the person is sitting on, once a war is declared against a faction by another, all hits on each other should count as war hits.

If the plan of faction A is to keep all members of faction B in the hospital, this would be mitigated by the members of faction B spending 5E to sit in a defensive wall with faction C

1. no med cd applied if any member of faction A hosps them
2. members on B on the fake wall still have the option to swap to the active wall between A and B at no extra E cost

There is now a very big incentive for members in B to hop onto the fake wall against C to prevent any med cd, until a slot opens up in A for them to hop to,
