ok, just to get it clear for some of us that are still feelin out how this works...let the loot timers on yata or torn stats get within like 1-2 mins of poppin over to the next lvl. we initiate and kill after 2 mins, that means we are working with lvl 5 loot? or we just dont worry bout lvl 5 loot to get more lvl 4 chances in a day? high rate of fire weapons offer best bet for gettin a chance to loot something*as long as its got good accuracy*?

let the loot timers on yata or torn stats get within like 1-2 mins of poppin over to the next lvl.

1-2 minutes is not enough these days, not for level 4, not for any of the NPCs.

Once the timers on yata or discord or torn stats get to 5 minutes, open the log and before you initiate the attack, just wait.

keep in mind that as soon as you enter a fight, you've got 5 minutes to make a move - the fights only last 20s-45seconds, so the logs have been filling up from 3 to even 4 mins prior to loot level change.

The most important part is watch and GET IN, before the 50 attackers cap is reached. The worst is anticipating a fight and not being able to get in because it's too full. If it's empty, wait, join when you see people trickle in. If it's filling up, join immediately.

[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]Lvl 5 loot will only happen if people don't attack a lvl 4 NPC for 4 hours... the odds of that are .... well, it's not gonna happen. You'll be joining the fights at level 3, and hopefully nobody attacks too early, because once the stampede starts attacking, if the lot kills them at lvl 3, the entire time waiting from 3-4 was wasted, as well as a chance for a good weapon.

it was once believed that chance of looting depended on how much damage a player made. now we believe that the more hits you *land* (no reloads, no misses) = higher chance.... but there's evidence every day of people with 4 hits and 1000 damage looting good stuff, and people with 150k+ or 600k+ damage looting f**k all.

one thing is for sure though, if you don't try, you have 0% chance of looting anything. godspeed, young padawan!

ive already fought the NPCs several times. not really an issue on my end waiting for the right time to attack. just kinda curious of a few things, and im sure im not the only newer person that doesnt quite understand how the loot lvl works. earlier the timers ran out but didnt increase the loot lvls, dont quite understand how that works but might as well ask so others that dont know can get the info without feeling patronized

You're talking about the yata timers?
I've ran across this problem too, and the reason is because my computer clock is 2 minutes off from normal time.

Go here: https://time.is/

Check this part:

Your clock is 2 minutes and 4.6 seconds ahead.

If your clock is ahead like mine, then you need to account for that when looking at yata. Add the difference. And sometimes yes, loot levels lag, but that's why you gotta open the fight up (without joining) and monitor it yourself when it comes down to the wire.

Bump, because people really need to see this after recent attacks.

Dont join fernando 5 minutes before IV, join a little while after. Because doing this is making him be killed before he’s level 4 every single time.

Oh Hella Yella.

EDIT: don't make us get louder/bigger text on y'all...

Great guide Hemi but needs a little update with the changing rules of Torn
With the changes to group attacks since you made this you need to wait for the counter to build up to get the distraction bonus and don't automatically apply for everyone in the fight anymore they have to make a offensive action before they count as being there and each offensive action you make resets the counter.

This would be really helpful to add.

I have recently returned to Torn after many years and found the new looting aspect lots of fun. But I found I was getting hit an awful lot by Leslie and Jimmy even though they were the “weaker” NPCs by virtue of their lower HP.

I then read some of the recent Announcements and realised this was to do with the distraction bonus. On loots with higher HP NPCs (Bunny & Duke), you can leave it ever so slightly longer between hits and therefore increase your distraction bonus, and decrease your chances of getting hit. However, on the NPCs with lower HP, waiting will mean you might not be able to get all of your 25 hits in, and so you might hit faster, therefore lowering your distraction bonus and increasing the chances of getting hit and dying.

Something to remember for new/inexperienced looters!

Do you have a source for this? Considering the fact that "more likely to receive the loot" does not equal "guaranteed loot".

My problem is when I see NPC's "okay" status in TORN PDA, I joined the fight, but only me alone...
Waiting but still, nobody joins the fight.

Anything wrong here?
Or just mee too noob?

BTW, good guide! Kudos!
