Well hasn’t this been quite the week?
As if it’s not bad enough that we have terrible taste in phones and that our iOS app will never be updated again - Our dreams of being competitive inscriptville Torn have been hopelessly dashed by the confirmation that this is indeed the way Torn is supposed to be botted played.
For the most part I’ve sat back and spectated this whole affair without much care as I don’t use Cayman’s Bank, Scripts, The API,Automug, UI tweaks or page bypass that some seem to.
I’ve always been a kind of “each to their own” kind of guy, as in I honestly don’t care what others do and I don’t mind the strategy required to avoid thesecheating assholes ingenious fellow players.
It’s funny because actually there’s two separate issues occurring here simultaneously but only one is being acknowledged. Whilst currently an unpopular opinion, I have complete faith in the committee for the most part, and I am indifferent to changes Chedburn makes as it is after all, his game. This isn’t to say I wasn’t surprised with the tone he took in his responses, but again I’m not exactly losing sleep over that so whatever..
My thoughts on the matter? (Lol, who cares, right?)
Scripts aren’t anything new - clear as day, i imagine only a halfwit would dispute that. So I agree with old Cheddy on that one.
The old stock market was never intended to be used as a means to secure cash - See, I actually read the patch notes and that one seemed pretty clear to me. Whilst I could only imagine the frustration of those feeling that they had to retrieve that cash before the stock fee kicked in, I don’t necessarily agree that any recompense is owed and technically you should have read that you couldn’t hide that cash when you did retrieve it and therefore took that into consideration before rushing to immediately grab it - HOWEVER, I do think it was perhaps unfair to spring such a change without a warning beforehand. Perhaps with the prior warning that the stock market was to be closed it would have been beneficial to add this most important fact, but ah well.
The API needs to be delayed! - I don’t think that is an appropriate response. The frighteningly fast mugs whilst highlighted by the recent update, are not a symptom of. It’s been happening all along, albeit on a much smaller scale.
7-12 actions in 2 seconds - This is the the least spoken about issue we’re currently seeing. So far I personally have not seen Chedburn’s response to this. People are claiming that with captchas and page load times that these kind of mugs are completely impossible to defend against. As I’m primarily an iPhone user, this is the one thing that worries me. Now I’m based in the U.K. and as far as I’m aware have the fast possible connection available to buy. I have seen people defending this as being entirely possible, but I must say that in my experience it is absolutely not, for me at least - and I should say that’s on both mobile AND laptop.
It saddens me greatly that it’s becoming clear that I and others like me have no realistic hope of competing with people capable of such things. Add to this that when such apparently legal actions are combined scripts that we can essentially be insta-mugged without defence upon; landing in a foreign destination, listing something in our bazaar and purposefully leaving hospital, or winning anything in the casino that pays directly to hand such as the slots.
I have no intention of quitting or cancelling my subscription, but I want to highlight the genuine concern of a regular player generally unaffected by recent events in light of what appears to be the direction the game is moving in, in a calm and rational manner. I am happy to be corrected or berated. If you can change my perspective by all means try.
