… I want to play a game!

[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]GAME OVER---TORN ON MOBILE SUCKS![/background]

Whilst I'm not a mugger myself, I'd like to run an experiment to see if the 15sec immunity on landing is a fair solution or if its a carebear fix that makes flying way too safe.

TLDR: from now until Wednesday, 28th April I will be doing plushie runs and carrying 500m on hand whilst flying. Mug me. In torn or abroad. Don't worry, I won't cry in your DM to get a refund. I won't bounty, I won't retal in any way. However, I will post the logs here - if your stealth fails and you don't want your name shown please mail me and I'll edit the logs. I have shit Internet as well so please mail as chats are weird on mobile when my data coverage is low. Finders keepers rule applies ofc. And no, I won't have 500m on hand whilst I'm in torn. Only when I fly.

1 week or 1st successful mug. Whichever comes first.

Long version: most of my active income comes from flying. Lately I've been lazy and only done plushies, but I have done a fair bit of xannie runs and the occasional armour run to SA. Personally I enjoy the planning ahead and staying on top of shit. I enjoy doing a super quick clicky clicky (or tappy tappy on mobile) to stash money. I love seeing a log of "someone mugged you for $0"

But sometimes shit happens. And sometimes things don't go as planned. I was mugged as a nublet and it hurt like hell at the time. But I learned from it and I improved my gameplay. I stopped trying to sell or move my money when I knew I had shit Internet or wouldn't be able to get online when landing. I learned what bazaar value keeps me somewhat safe and "not worth the E"

I mostly disagree with the latest big updates, but I do agree with Cheds post about wanting to focus on risk, anger, revenge, and whatnot. TORN is a crime game. It's not supposed to be safe and easy.

If there is a successful mug on my 500m, that shows mugging is still very much doable and muggers need to improve their gameplay.

If I manage to keep my money for a full week, that shows flying is too safe.

Which ever comes first ends the experiment and hopefully this gets a point across, and shows that 15sec is fair. Or it isn't and maybe a better solution can be considered.

For records purposes, at the time I posted this my times travelled is at 1823. I'll aim for as many flights as possible, irl permitting.

Good luck and may the best mugger / plushie runner win.

Cheers,

This seems like a reasonable response to all that happens, test it out and see how good/bad it actually is.

Good luck on your testing, I'm biased and hoping you make it a few trips at least before losing your lunch.

This is only going to be a test of your own device/connection combination. It's not going to test anyone else's combination.

To test whether 15 seconds is suitable or otherwise a range of device/connection combinations would have to be tested. That would then have to be plotted against the proportions of users with the variety of those combinations.

The overall verdict would then depend on ultimately how many people should accept having lose out based on them having a device/connection combination not being adequate for the demanding performance requirements of this text based game.
