is it worth it to get a flashlight for my gun because I have the mission creds for it but I don't know if it would be a good idea

sometimes I get attacked sometimes I get mugged, etc

It won't do anything to stop the mugging if that's what you're asking. It'll just give you a better chance of knowing who mugged you

Weapon mods make you fight better. So yes its always a good idea to pimp out your guns with mods which make you fight better.

Fighting isnt just about stats. Other stuff helps with fighting as well.

The flashlight stealth reduction only takes effect if you make a hit. So if you are being attacked without landing hits on your attacker, a different mod that increases accuracy might work better for you.

I have the light mods - they have relatively inexpensive upgrades for getting the merit for equipping higher-level mods. They have helped reveal attackers on occasion.

Do you have to make a hit with the weapon that has the light equipped? Or any hit with any weapon will proc the stealth reduction?
GreekPoser [2527893]
You need to hit with the weapon equipped with the light mod to reduce stealth and reduce accuracy for their next hit.

That said, when you hit someone defending their stealth bar reduce a little bit. I don't know how much is it and if it depends on the weapon used. That is regardless the light mod, which makes stealth reduction more obvious.

Flashlight is generally regarded to be one of the better all-around mods. Only way I'd recommend against it is if your dex is significantly lower than the rest of your stats, in which case the opponent accuracy debuff won't matter much.

Edit: Put aside at least 3k in mission points for when a book pops up. Mods should be purchased while on sale only.

You should still get it. Good for retal baiting mid and lategame. Equip flash light and adjustable trigger on a high accuracy secondary (if you can get Duke's Homemade Pocket Shotgun, that's the one), set your defense preference to 0 primary, 100 secondary, 1 melee, 0 temp. You don't have to change loadout since most people would attack with primary and melee anyway.

It won't matter anyway if the mugger one-hit you but if you survive one round and shoot him back with a high enough speed, one hit would drastically reduce the stealth bar and unstealth them for your faction mate to retaliate.

I've managed to unstealthed several opponents (like this and this) with much higher stat than me even with no hit using the flashlight mod so it could have reduced the opponent stealth without a hit as well

For the love of all that is holy stop telling this youngin to waste his valuable points on shit he won't be able to utilize for a year or more at his current pace. What's good for the goose ain't always good for the gander.

I would only get mod when they're on special sales. Torn is a marathon, if you're free to play, have 3k mission points in reserve for when a good book pop up on the mission shop. Mod will cycle back and is a common item, book is a rare items and sometimes a great book would come when you have no point to buy.

Getting the flashlight also depends on what's your weapon of choice...if you only use DBK then flashlight isnt worth it, rather save for books
