Ok so i just came into possession of 2 c4 corvettes, a 91 that is in good working order and an 86 that is in rough shape. I would like to get the 86 running at least. So far i have replaced the fuel pump, relay system and the filter under the door. I bypassed the heater core as well. My goal is to get it down to bare bones as far as features to just run. Does anyone here have experience with these cars that could give me some tips? Thanks BM

I've only got to work on one corvette a buddy of mine has, but it's a late model as well, I believe an 89'

Big things to look out for, at least issues we ran into were:
1. This goes without saying, but ditch the tires
2. Check your rear! We had a pretty bad leak, that needed a full rebuild which = major headache
3. Electrical - he had an all digital dash, don't know if yours does to, but bottom line, US vehicles have never been known for their mastery of electrical work, get those all sorted and figured out
4. And lastly, good call on fuel pump, any old car that's sat and in rough shape should really have the whole fuel system checked. Run through all the basics (plugs, wires, brakes + lines) buddies was an automatic, but if you have standard, check the clutch slave/master and lines as well. Change oil, double check cooling system and check exhaust from headers back for rust/holes/missing hardware (had a lot of this too on the 89)

Good luck and post some pictures!

Thanks for the input. I recently topped off the oil and found a leak in the timing chain cover. Getting to it is going to be tricky. Might be more trouble than im wanting to get into for a car that is going to have more gremlins down the line. its gonna sit in the corner of the garage till winter when i have more time to tinker on it. I'm having fun in the 91 for the summer. cheers

I completely understand. Unfortunately old cars almost always require a pretty big time and money commitment to get them back up and running. If the 91s keeping you entertained use the 86 as a parts car lol. Good luck and have fun bud!
