Hi everyone,

I wanted to gather some feedback on a subject we're discussing within the committee. I understand that asking the greater community as a whole isn't always the best idea, since generally votes trend towards what's best for players personally in the moment, rather than the game itself over the long term. But we're at a deadlock, and need to find a way to proceed.

Currently factions can unset any branch upgrades they wish without a penalty in 100 hours. This means that any faction can entirely change all of their upgrades within short notice, which has created a meta where many factions jump between 'war modes' and 'training modes' for optimal efficiency. This practice was unintended, and seems tedious having to do this whenever a faction wants to 'war' or 'train'. Ranked warring will see factions fighting up to once per week, which may exacerbate this - I expect factions will have to have upgrades continuously rolling in and out, which just doesn't seem viable.

Originally the intent was for factions to choose a good mix between branches - where they rarely entirely switch them out, they just upgrade what's most important to them in the long run. A faction's upgrade tree was meant to cater to its unique requirements and members, setting them apart from others, and being slowly built upon step by step over time. Factions weren't meant to be able to just grab the best branches for whatever they wanted to do at any one time, regardless of how much respect they have. They weren't meant to feel forced to frequently reset their branches in order to be competitive with others.

Instead of remaining with this half-way '100 hour unsets' system, I would like the opportunity to correct my earlier mistakes, and make faction tree upgrades long-term and inflexible as originally planned.

I would like to do the following...

1) Strictly limit the ability to continuously switch branches around, so factions will no longer feel a requirement to do this in order to be competitive with others.

2) Halve all respect costs for upgrades. This 50% reduced requirement will be applied to all specialization branches.

3) Give factions the ability to unlock two more specialization branches, at the x64 and x128 levels. This means it'll be theoretically possible for a faction to have all upgrade branches at once.

4) Create a system that automatically orders branches by 'most respect spent' to ensure the respect cost modifiers are always optimized, in the best combination.

If this plan is not accepted and the majority of you disagree, then we will instead go in the opposite direction, forever embracing flexible short-term faction tree upgrades. Factions will continue to be able to quickly recalibrate their faction tree to whatever branches they want within a matter of days. It's expected that we'll reduce the unset timers to 96 or 72 hours, and make no further changes.

Hopefully there will be a clear and obvious result, showing what's most desired by the community so we can implement a final solution and bring this matter to a close.

Thanks.

Those first 3 points will work in tandem to ensure big factions constantly have a LOT of perks active at once, whilst smaller factions will struggle to adapt due to ability to change them being 'strictly limited'... I suppose ranked warring will eliminate this issue if it only matches factions of similar strength...

I think the 50% reduced cost will help smaller factions field a lot more specials allowing even smaller factions to be competitively viable. Big factions will always trump small factions, as they should but I do believe the reduced cost will help massively for smaller factions.

And as you said, hopefully ranked warring pits similarly strength factions against each other anyway.

I think these changes would be good. The rapid switching does tend to favour higher respect factions.

This may be a knee jerk reaction, but--

The premise is that this will prepare the gane for ranked warring. I find this a very difficult basis to work with, as for all we know that's a decade away. Whilst I understand the difficulty of creating a timeline, asking players to make a decision without giving us one reeks of ass-covering.

Further, denying smaller factions the flexibility they depend on seems to me to be a nerf, at a time where the consolidation of "faction families" is only continuing. You're also further creating the idea that some factions may go for more "peacetime" benefits, effectively recreating training factions.

i believe this will benefit alot of our groups. especially point no.3 ( thumbs up here ched ) go for it !

You can’t change it after all this time. We do need a method of undo-ing our changes. I have a huge case of FOMO. Maybe if you allowed all 8 branches (so have a 64x and 128x tier) Edit: Some how skipped over that, thank you. It would be NEEDED to attempt to have every upgrade at once.
That way “eventually” a faction can max everything?

To the point:
I actually have liked this system of having to figure out when you need war upgrades, and when you need break ones. This seems like you’re trying to look and find something broken with a perfectly fine system.

Edit: I got thinking about this more. “What would be a branch I don't set at all”. Crime maybe?
Ill have a huge regret when crimes 2.0 out and I needed all the crime upgrades to keep IBB competitive.

What about event days? Now you’re forcing people to switch factions and be without specials for 6 days (leaving and returning 3d each). Just because they need to swap into a faction with a certain upgrade.

Its messy and unnecessary.

Agreed....I think small faction will be hugely benefitted....as most of the small factions main goal is to train and grow tbh

My personal biggest issue in the factions is a small gaction has no hope of getting any area on the map to start building passive respect. I might not have the best grasp on how the factions work tbh but there is such little area and when big factions have a monopoly on the map trying to steal a piece for your group seems impossible.

Ched put shorter events please

Edit no I'm not talking about calander events kindly.
Also kindly f**k off if you say I have stroke because I actually have a stroke dipshits

I like this idea, ONLY in tangent with ranked warring. They need to be released together.

Otherwise, warring will be even more one-sided. With the advantage to the higher respect faction.

My math isn't great, but 6+2=8 right? I'm pretty sure we already have 6 (flying so can't check), so those extra 2 would put it at 8, allowing you to get everything if you have enough respect.
Hornz [2220919]
Don't forget that the cost of upgrades would be halved. Smaller factions will be able to run a lot more upgrades than they currently do. They just won't be able to swap between them easily.

Did you read the bit about reduced cost and allowing two more branches?

Personally for stopping/reducing the constant switching I'd double the unset time and you lose the perks of that special immediately after starting the unset, people are going to be less willing to switch up specials if they have 8 days without them as a cooldown
