Hello.
as you know (or not) La Palma Volcano Cumbre Vieja has erupted.
as I’m the only player from Canary Islands I would like to inform you about the situation, because the mass media coverage is somehow very limited.

The volcano has erupted on Sunday local time. We knew it, and it was just a time bomb with unknown launch time.
So far it has destroyed 152 houses and caused no fatalities.

All of the area is evacuated. As I’m a scientist I knew about it from my friends that are working in there a few days before, and decided to leave the archipelago till the situation stabilizes.
I live on a different island, of Gran Canaria, but still wanted to leave to avoid all the panic and supermarket basic food price change.

So far:
170 hectares of land is covered with fresh lava, with the average moving speed of 400m per hour.
It deploys about 11t of SO2 per day to the atmosphere.
We are still waiting for the lava to reach the ocean, and that’s the most important point for us now. Lava and water = a lot of toxic particles freed into the air.
The government of Spain is buying new houses as of now, to relocate the victims.

I will try to keep this post updated, but as I’ve mentioned before , I’m in a different place now and can’t access my PC.

Update: 05/10/2021
The volcano is very active, has destroyed over 1100 houses so far, and the lava has reached the ocean.

Oah a Macaronesian fellow.

It's a shame for the houses, but hopefully at the current progression rate there should not be any life loss at least.

There has been quite a bit of coverage on the subject around here, given the proximity (~460 km).

We should start getting ashes from La Palma Sunday/Monday here in Madeira acording to the last few weather forecasts i've seen.

They were also still unsure if the lava would actually reach the Atlantic, dunno if that has changed since.

I've been watching the live feeds for a couple of days actually, but at this point is like watching paint dry, not that much going on (lets hope it stays that way). They were talking about the possibility of the eruption lasting about 80 days... Dunno if that is still the forecast.

Update:
Over 420 houses affected, LP-2 highway destroyed.

The river of lava is already beneath the Todoque village and needs about 1500 meters to reach the ocean. We are waiting for that event, as it will give us a big cloud of Hydrochloric acid (HCl) - something you shouldn't breathe in.

1000'C lava and 20'C water connected together will create HCl 'could' with lava glass and a lot of Cl- particles in the air. From there on - it will reach the altitude of 5km and may affect the air quality as well as air travel.

No casualties till today, people are safu, and the volcano has brought a lot of attention from international media and tourists. That causes hotel space limits and people are complaining.
The government of Canaries and Spain is already buying new houses, but the major problem is the land that produces around 18% of bananas from Canary Islands, affected by the lava. Many companies will bankrupt.

The volcano is opening new fireholes, so it looks like the eruption will continue for a long time, but the volcanologists say that this one is following a typical Canarian Eruption Pattern so far, and it usually takes 3 weeks to stop. As always, nobody knows. 3 weeks or 3 months maximum.

The Megatsunami issue is still on the table, but we all know that is not going to happen overnight.
