Well I'll remind you that the Soviet Union collapsed over 30 years ago and that China's economy is what it is due to the de-collectivization of agriculture, privatization of state run industries, and opening up the economy to foreign investment.

what china had and the soviets had was never "communism", it was (and in china's case, still is) a stage of socialism.

communism is the goal. what these countries are doing now is on the path towards it, but if what you are getting at is that they failed or are "not communist" ideologically, that is a mischaracterization.

edit: just because china is kicking the west's ass at their own game doesn't mean the party has lost sight of the goal. this is all work towards that goal.

it is socialism. and it's a work in progress. socialism is the ladder we must climb, the work we must put in. communism is the ideology, the goal that we look towards. to suggest that the project is finished now and that we have "achieved" communism would be daft.

Yes what is going on in China now is not communism its something else i dont even know what term to use for it.

Chinas business model in recent decades is to take on the manufacturing of the world. ie they have teamed up with multi national companies to build our tvs, pcs, game consoles etc 'for cheap'

All those skills and jobs used to be done in the west. I remember when i was a kid for example most of the tvs/computers etc i had where manufactured much closer to home, some of them in the UK in fact.

China are trying to take over the world with money.

Those 'cheap' tvs and consoles and pcs we buy arent really cheap. Skilled jobs are gone forever unless manufacturing are bought closer to home.

Shipping stuff halfway across the world is also bad for the environment. Its unneccesary. Those 'cheap' electronics in reality are really very very expensive ...

china isn't trying to take over the world, but it was absolutely foolish (from a capitalist perspective) for america to sell off all their manufacturing to china in a niave bid to "liberalize their markets". america thought they were springing a trap on red china, but it is themselves who are ensnared

i strongly support china. but i also strongly support returning industry to our countries. i have zero faith in our capitalist countries doing such a thing however. it will take until we have governments here that care about their people and industry like china does before we see the west rise again.

capital will continue to bleed to china. it turns out capitalists aren't unwilling to work with communists; that's the beauty of selling yourself out for profit. they will go where the money and resources are, and will follow the rules, even if those rules are made by communists. it's a lesson the west must learn

capitalism is a stage towards communism. china is using it in an ingeneous and wildly successful way. capitalists, as long as they must exist, should exclusively be under the thumb of communists in order to ensure the improvement of life for the people.

Big business will destroy the environment in the meantime they have outsourced skilled jobs on the cheap to China.

The environment and our local economy are paying for it big time. Big business just sees the $ signs. Nothing else.

What America needs to do is treat China the way we did before Kissinger went to 'open' an eastern trade agreement back in the 70's. That has bitten us in the ass big time.

big business is doing what they do best: making money

there is no regulation or incentive for them to be patriotic, to pay their dues to the society that nutured them. business, being so incredibly short-sighted, backing libertarian fantasies, have betrayed their homelands. not paying taxes, exporting resources and labour, paying absolutely no mind to the hurt they caude to the people who built them up.

it is very evident that ideological people must be in power to ensure capital is "patriotic". in china, they kill billionaires who are corrupt, who betray china and their duty to the people. in america, those corrupt billionaires own the leaders and write the laws.

it is too late for this. decoupling would lead to empty shelves and starvation, for americans.

the damage is extremely deep at this point. there would need to be a systained industrial push to rebuild what has been lost, which would be very "uncapitalist", non-profitable, and probably impossible under the helm of capitalist leaders.

i'm not sure exactly what can be done. industry needs to be rebuilt, it needs the support of the state/people, and business must be forced to be patriotic.

but at this point, i can't see that being accomplished in less than 20 years, even if america became marxist-leninist tomorrow. it will not happen at all under the dems/gop tho

Well yes that is what every business sets out to do. If you don't make any money, you don't tend to stay solvent and won't remain in business for much longer.

I fail to see why a company needs to be "patriotic". These days, these large corporations are multinational. Sure say Apple brings their manufacturing base which in turn drastically raises the price of iPhones. How would that cost increase help them in the global market overseas? Is Huawei or Samsung going to cut their prices so Apple can remain competitive?

If you want companies to pay taxes, elect officials which will enact taxes on corporations. If you want companies to have ethical supply chains, elect officials which will enact laws requiring ethical supply chains.
