There's a lot of easy merits in that list there. I believe there were quite a few added since that list was made but it should be fairly up to date and a good place to start.

I looked at tempest's guide very early on. It was very early on, and reading through it gave me an idea on how to rush em. Def recommend going through it atleast once
Rushing merits does often come with some opportunity cost of not doing what's best for your growth though. Id leave a lot of them till later, let them happen naturally instead of specifically grinding them. Yata was the best for it imo. Pda syncs with yata on mobile. I found it really easy to choose the awards to go for next using both of them.

Agreed. My favorite is the YATA page. There is also a good page in tornstats.com

Get yourself torn PDA if you play on mobile, all yata’s merit info is displayed on the awards section - makes finding all the info quick and easy!
